Just got back from a couple days in Cabo Pulmo, Mexico. Unfortunately our trip was cut short due to Hurricane Jimena, but we got 6 dives in while we were there. We stayed at Cabo Pulmo Beach Resort in one of their villas. Amenities were almost primitive, but that added to the experience for us. My wife was a little unsure at first but ended up enjoying Cabo Pulmo more than Cabo San Lucas. Everything at the resort is run from solar power and batteries. All the water comes from a well. There were no air conditioners, but none were needed. We even slept outside one night! There was a nice breeze and we could hear the waves breaking on the beach just a few hundred feet away.

The diving was wonderful! We saw manta rays, sting rays, moral eels and tons of fish! We dove in a school of amberjacks. The sky got dark when the school swam above you. We spent a few hours snorkeling at the protected park close to the resort. The snorkeling was as good as the diving. We saw several kinds of sea cucumbers as well as a couple white nudibranchs.

We met at the beach before each dive. The folks at the resort had already loaded all your gear into the boat for you. It was less ten minutes to each of the sites we visited. Even with the hurricane coming we still had visibility of 50'+. Water temperature was low 80s. We used 3 mil wetsuits, but most of the other divers just wore their bathing suits. We did one dive to 72', but that was the deepest. Most of the time we stayed between 35' and 50'. There is a mild current which worked out fabulously! It was weak enough you could stop to look at something interesting, but strong enough you didn't have to swim much. The boat stayed above us while we did our dives.

I highly recommend the resort and the diving in Cabo Pulmo. Easy diving for newer divers, but so much to see that experienced divers will love it as well!

Thanks for the report. I have been interested in diving Pulmo.

masterof0,

C U there...are you diving with Cabo Pulmo divers?

Im actually diving with Baja Sur Tours (donnacabo on the board). I have arranged for three days of diving with her. Two days of local dives and one day at Cabo Pulmo. Im hoping I can get one more day in, but we shall see...

Not to sound stereotypical, but I haven't run across many black divers. So I don't think I will be too hard to identify. If you see me, please don't hesitate to say hi.

OK, will look for you. Our dive days are Thur, Fri & Sat.

My wife I.D.'s me underwater by my gray hair which wasn't gray until after I married her (about 35 years ago).
