like most divers whale shark and real sharks< esp hammer heads> are on my bucket list. Odds.. shop recommendations, other things there I should not miss

I went around that time in 2015. Whale shark snorkel tour is popular but a crazy ripp off w most shops.

If u walk down the row of small tour vendors along the strip to the end of the boat dock, u can negotiate a more reasonable price. Still $$$ but seeing the creatures in wild is something else.

See if u can find this mid age man name Francisco with a nick name of Indian. He gave a decent deal.

I used Dive cabo for local dives. Pretty good w free nitrox. Others said La Paz has better diving. It was also where we went to snorkel w whaleshark in the bay.

I was diving/snorkling with cabosharkdive (www.cabosharkdive.com) just off Cabo last April. We saw Silky and Mako Sharks. Jacobo - the guy who runs it - only takes small groups out so it is a bit pricey but well worth it in my opinion. What you will see is highly depended on the season you are going. You can send him an email and he can tell you what you normally see in October.

Here's a short video from two afternoons just off cabo:

I live and work part of the year in La Paz but have dove in Cabo, the corridor and the Gordo banks.
Diving in both places is good, I would suggest a couple days diving out of Cabo in the marina. There are a few good sites that are very close. The Gordo banks are also worth a visit, you can either dive out of the marina or drive up to San Jose del cabo and dive out of there which puts you a lot closer. I have seen sharks, whale sharks, marlin and a lot of other big stuff when diving out here.
I also second the cabo shark dive, it's pretty awesome.
If you are going to go whale watching go with whale watch cabo. They have marine biologists as guides and the tours are very good and pretty cheap.

For hammerheads your need to go to La Paz, it's about a 2 hour drive from Cabo. There is a seamount there called El Bajo. I've tried a few times but always in the summer, local friends who work in the diving industry told me that the fall (October/November) is supposed to be your best chance.
The whale sharks are in the bay of La Paz from September to April, you are pretty much guaranteed to see them, I have swam with anywhere from 2 -15 in one day. There are a lot of guys on the Malecon (boardwalk) that will take you out for about 400 pesos. You need to have your own gear and there is no guide but it's the cheapest way if you are solo.
I booked a tour for my two kids that included whale sharks and diving with one of the local businesses, Baja Connections. It was pretty good as we swam with them for about 2 hrs and than went on to Balandra where my kids did a discovery dive. I would highly recommend them for any diving you might do in La Paz.

Patrick do you know if Baja Connections only operates out of La Paz? Maybe I'm going to Cabo in November but I'm very interested to dive El Bajo and to see the Whale Sharks up in La Paz. Or is there a good operator out of Cabo?

As far as I know they are only based in La Paz but they might pick you up in Cabo, I'm not sure. I don't think you would find any operators in Cabo who would take you to El Bajo but you would find some to take you to La Paz for the day to see the whale sharks, that is a pretty common tour.
