Hi.

We are arriving Cabo San Lucas by Carnival Splendor cruiseship, in port 7am to 3pm on Fri. Sept. 4/09. We have to lineup at tender by 2pm, so time in port isn't long.

I am the only diver with my own gear and the rest of the relatives (wife, BIL & SIL, and MIL) are snorkelers with their own gears.

Most of the dive sites seem to be very close (5-7min boat rides). Some said there's a good chance to see manta rays, and also sea lions at one site. Is that true? Are those sites also suitable for snorkelers?

The various dive ops also have a range of prices, even for going to the same sites. The rate for snorkelers range from $10 to $35, so for 4 snorkelers that can add up. Any recommendation for a dive op (not through the ship), that can do combo dive/snorkel well? Or should I go diving myself while sending the rest to their own snorkel trips? In particular, any recent revies on the dive ops Deep Blue, Baja Dive, Amigo Del Mar, Andromeda, Manta, Tio, etc.?

Thanks.

Diving and snorkeling are indeed very close to the Marina. Dove with Baja Dive a couple of weeks ago and totally enjoyed diving with Memo our DM. He was very attentive to my dive buddy who had less than 20 dives. We dove the North and South walls, the point and Neptune's finger. The sea lions didn't come and play but the dives were most enjoyable and we did see a number of rays. The snorkeling is usually at Pelican Rock, same place we dove accessed the North and South walls so you may be able to go out together and then spend your SI together at Lovers beach. Other option is for the snorkelers to hire a water taxi to take them to Lover's beach and snorkel from there. Many do this and it can be pretty busy with glass bottom boats, dive boats and water taxis but everyone seems to be pretty careful about the ones in the water.

Enjoy!

Hi I like Baja Dive also. Dove many times with Memo great Diver. My buddys dont Dive so they went snorkeling at Peligan Rock it was great good Vis. and lots of Fish.I also really like there big boat lots of shade. Its really hot now so this is important to have a big boat.

I've gone with Manta, Tio and Amigos. I've been happy with each. The thing to remember is DMs are very itinerant. The DM from one op may work for another one next month, so with limitations, the ops are largely interchangeable. When I last was there, Manta was operated by an Israeli and his relatives and close friends were the DMs. They were all very good with military diving backgrounds. The DM at Tio was outstanding and his background in diving was beyond words. (I forget where he trained, but the curriculum was long and arduous and made for a great DM/Instructor.) Amigos was able to accommodate me on very short notice, for which I am grateful. It is a well run operation with good DMs and crew. But, the owner, an American, I believe, is a bit lacking on people skills.

I am on the Carnival Splendor in October. I just spoke to Amigo del Mar Divers. Jane was extremely helpful and created a great dive that will keep us all on the same boat. We are going with 3 divers and 2-3 snorklers. Yes, us divers will be sacrificing depth but we will all be together and that is the most important thing for us on this Group Cruise. If you have not booked yet check out Amigo del Mar Divers.
