DiverBuoy:
Do you have an exact date and time you are available?

That's a lot of info DiverBuoy! Thanks. We're going to charter the Express Diver's boat on December 28. We need 10 divers minimum, but we have 7 now. Wanna join us? If that doesn't work out, we'll do the Catalina Express and either charter a boat or dive the point.

Sorry, I won't be any help filling spots on the 28th. X-mas and lack of disposable funds at this time.

If you guys won't be too tired from all of your boat travel, I will still be ready for some shore dives on Thursday.

Rick, where in SoCal will you be located and when will you be arriving?

I just phoned the owner here is the story.

The 28th is open on the Explorer, and they have no reserved at present. They said they would accomodate a charter on that day (no holiday plans to interfere).

Here is the rundown. To keep an entire boat (full charter) to yourself it costs $1700.00. However the boat will not even run with less than 10 people (thus the number mentioned in this thread). The cost per diver in a group of 10, is $95.00 each.

There are cost saving alternatives too, for example, if you do 1/2 charter, or book 12 people, they charge only $850.00 for the group (significant savings per person). However, the remaining 12 spots on the boat are still considered open and they will post it online that they are running that day in an effort to fill the remainder of the open boat with more people.

They do 3 dives. And depending on weather and conditions (I imagine they may be open to suggestions) they will do either Anacapa Island or Santa Cruz Island. They don't supply tanks, but they do have a compressor for filling personal tanks. The price of passage includes breakfast, lunch and snacks. There are showers for personal use, but not for cleaning gear.

I'm running the offer by a few friends of mine too, I'm "tentatively" on for it. But will be able to commit more solidly after I hear if my schedule can afford it, since I'll have to take a day off work during a week when everyone else is scheduling vacation time, that makes it harder. I'll know more later.

If you are in town on the 16th of Decemeber Hollywoodivers has a charter going out to Anacapa Island...That is a Friday....Give us a call. We are in Los Angeles. the Boat leaves from Ventura at 8am 3 dives Hot tub on Board...yeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw

I will be here that week. I have a guest (Annasea from ScubaBoard) coming in then so I'm not sure how much diving I'll be doing that week. However feel free to e-mail or PM me (the phone is useless).

Yes, Robb, that is the plan! Catalina on the Express (not Explorer) on Wed. the 28th, and shore diving with you in Laguna on the 29th. Maybe someone will give you a wad of cash on Christmas and you can join us on Wed.! :D

I arrive on Christmas Day at Ontario about noon. We're staying with my parents in Banning (between San B. and Palm Springs), about 1h:45min drive from Long Beach. We won't commute back on Wed. night, but stay somewhere close for the Thursday diving with you. Then, back to Banning on Thurs. night.

Hey divinman! Looks like you have to change your screen name to divwithinman.

Ok before this takes too many tangents, can I get clarification ... you've decided on the 28th to use the Catalina Express or Flyer or one of those $35-45 shuttles over to Avalon is this correct?

I'd have worked to arrange a day off for Anacapa or Santa Cruz ... but I'm burned out on Casino Point diving and really Catalina diving for that matter.
