I have a dilemma. I want to upgrade my dive light and need to make a decision between upgrading my C8 to an LED w/rechargeable batt. pack for approx. $160, or going for a Light Cannon w/rechargeable batt. pack for approx. $260.

Is it worth the price difference? I owned a Light Cannon, so I know how bright they are. Is the C8 LED comparable? Is there any other HID lights on the market in the price range of the Light Cannon that I should look at?

1. The UK's Cannon 100 is the cheapest HID lite on the market.

2. Of course the output of the cannon 100 is brighter than the C8 eLed's.

The output between them ............ may be 5:2.

But, what U need to watch (How far of the illuminant distance do U usually need ) ?

BTW, both of them are not good in the muddy water.

I just bought the C8 led and took it with me to Roatan. It works great on night dives, but it did not even come close to the illumination range of my SL4 during the day. That was disappointing.

I did a side by side test of the Cannon and the C8 Led at the dive shop the other day because i too was curious. There really is no comparison between the two. The cannon was a lot brighter and whiter. We were on a night dive, i had my c8 and one of my buddies had the cannon, i was able to turn my light off and use the light coming from his cannon. That was enough to sell me on the cannon. If money is an issue the C8 led blows away the regular C8...

And just to confuse the issure, Princeton Tec has come out with a new LED 8-Cell Shockwave Light. It uses 3 high output LED's and is much brighter than the C8 LED, but not as bright as the HID, and the price is about half way as well... Much longer burn time than the HID, and more durable.

I'm also trying to decide on Light cannon or Shockwave (both w/rechargable options -they are supposedly a tad bit brighter than disposables) Has anyone done a side by side with the new 3-LED shockwave vs HID Light cannon? I would expect the L-cannon to be brighter ...but is it really $100-$120 bucks brighter?

The light cannon still rules supreme... The 3 Led is very good, probably 4:5 of the light cannon, but I'd take the cannon if one was giving me my choice. And it's not $100 difference.... the light cannon is about $60 more.

The other difference is HID is more fragile than leds, which are basically indestructable. They also get longer burn time. So both have their advantages.

you'll hear people complaining about the cannons bulbs getting broken all the time..mine is in the bottom of my dive bag, gets banged into everything, and is still going strong..but i could just be lucky!!
