We tried to avoid a repeat of yesterday's wind blown dive by getting in the water early this morning. The winds were already blowing by 7:00 as we rounded Rocky Point on our way to Abalone Cove. Whitecaps and rough seas chased us back to Golf Ball Reef where we put up with the swells to get in a dive.
Conditions were similar to every other dive we've had for the past month. Sand was stirred by the surge so we had to settle for tiny subjects. Nudibranchs and snails were mating and laying eggs everywhere.
The sea had calmed a bit by the time we surfaced so we headed for the barge. The usual suspects were out and about. The highlight for me was a female sheephead trying to nap. I saw it leaning against a brick with its mottled nocturnal colors. Whenever I raised my camera she would dart away and quickly change to her pink outfit. This went on for a few minutes before I settled for one shot.
We surfaced into a windstorm and raced back into the harbor. I don't know when we will have a decent day of diving again.
