I've read posts about LDS not honoring warranty for internet purchases of bcd's or purchases made on the internet just don't have a warranty. Does this also apply to internet purchase of Suunto computers. The price difference is serious. About 250 bucks for the vyper and cobra. I figure that I would have to send the puter back to suunto anyways -dive shop can't fix it. What say you? Thanks kk

It absolutely applies to computers.

I've had to use a loaner computer while mine was sent back to Suunto. One advantage of the LDS. Another advantage is that the people selling the merchandise are also diving it.

Leisure Pro is not an authorized suunto dealer. you can confirm this on aqualungs dealer locator.

leisure pros alleged "same as manufacturers warrantees" are not. with mfg warrantee you can bring in to any auth dealer and get the same level of warrantee service. with lp warrantee your only option is to send it back to lp, or pay for out of warrantee service.

yes online purchases can be much less expensive for the initial price, but you have to make the decision as to weather whether the loss of service and support is worth it.

Are you willing to pay $250.00 for a warranty? I purchased a New in Box Uwatec Aladin prime 3 guage console on Ebay for $212.00. The LDS had a price of $570.00. I saved $358.00.( 63% savings). I understand I did not get a warranty but if the LDS sold the computer to me without a warranty for $212.00 and offered me a warranty for an extra $358.00 I wouldn't buy the warranty. In my Opinion having a warranty is worth about 10% of the total price. Anymore than that and you are throwing money away. just my 2 psi.

Depends on how much you think you will need LDS support for your computer. It has user replacable batteries so they don't put you over the same barrel that Uwatec does with exoberant battery replacement charges. With the LDS you can avoid lots of potential headaches. A friend of mine had trouble with an Aeris computer from LP and they took care of the problem, but it took about 6 months. OTOH, $250 would get you a pretty good backup computer. I've found that good backups work much better than good warrenties for getting you back in the water quickly - especially in the middle of a dive trip. YMMV

Yes User replacable batteries are important on a Uwatec.

Thats a great point

There are some other advanatages buying from a authoized LDS like this. It's not much, but it's something....

Why do they have to throw in little bones, why not just ease the restrictions that they place on the (Authorized Dealers) and let them compete in the free market.

The free batteries are something - insignificant but not nothing. But a 5 or less year old computer that originally cost $400 or more should get more than $100 on ebay. The technology upgrade looks like a scam.
