Hi guys, i've posted on other threads and the help has been great. Thanks!

I'm this [---] close to buying my regs but i just wanted to confirm with you guys that i'm making a wise move. I'm just a recreational diver and don't see myself going into anything technical for many many years to come.

I like a small in size regulator because the bulky ones are unconfortable.

What does everyone think of the Mares V-16 Proton LX Reg? (as seen on leisurepro)
The V16 1st stage seems to offer everything i'm looking for and the reg is simple, small and used the VAD integrated system.

Otherwise my other options are: Oceanic GT3 CDX5, Envoy Deluxe, and Aqualung titan LX. BUt i don't want to confuse things.

I would just like to know if the Mares reg is a good buy? My only little concern is that it doesn't have an adjustment lever, but i'm too worried about that. I'm sure at 30m it won't make a difference.

Thanks for your opinions in advance.

Personally, I don't use any of these brands. I'm sure they all work. I opt for simple, dependable and "field fixable". Hence, 80% of all the regs I use are Apeks (5), a few Poseidon(4) & Scubapro's (2) here and there. I have three Sherwoods which are OK for light duty diving and teaching.

BTW...the fellas at Leisurepro do not dive and are happiest when they move merchandise.

I'm surprised. I use several Sherwoods for some very aggressive diving, where the regulator gets "punished",and they perform flawlesly. Although I am not a fan of their 2nd stages.

define "uncomfortable." Above or below water? Comfort may have a lot more to do with a hose that is pulling at the reg or a mouthpiece that doesn't work for you. If that's the real problem you could get a small reg and have the same problem.

I agree. I use the Sherwood where they will be punished on a daily basis - teaching in the ocean. The second stage on the Maxima, older Oasis/Blizzard weren't all that great. The older Bruts with a the removable bezel were pretty darn good. Simple as simple could get.

For the deepwater and cave stuff (160' - 200+) I've used the Poseidons, or Apeks.

and cave stuff .

This is where my Sherwood get used-on my sidemount rig. This regulator gets beat up when I have to drop a tank to go through a restriction. It is the Dale Earnhardt of regulators...because its tuff....:10:

Other than a SP MK2/R190 all those regs you mentioned are far from simple and field fixable.

Back to my question, i have done more & more research and i've come to the conclusion that either the Oceanic GT3 CDX5 or the Aqaulung Titan LX regs are the way to go. Even though the Mares regs look great, they don't seem value for $.

Which would you guys go out of the Oceanic or Aqualung?

Both great regs. The Oceanic as more features (adjustable).

I should qualify my statement: easy to work on the second stage diaphragm only to remove sand and other debris. The first stages need some TLC on a bench with appropriate tools and training.
