Dive Rite's plates may allow the use of wings without STA's, but according to Dive Rite's site none of their wings support this. To my knowledge, the Pioneer is the only wing made that doesn't require an STA for single tank use. I'd appreciate being corrected, but their pictures and descriptions make it sound like this is not the case.

DR Venture, Trek and Rec wings can be used for single tank without STA. I sometimes use RecWing for single tank without STA.

Have had nothing but good service from them so far. I have only had two internet orders and one shop visit (with the cheapest gas around i might add - think i paid $9 for two AL80's pretty much completely filled with 32% and 34%). They were really helpful in the store and although it doesnt look all that much out front, the back rooms for the fill bank and their storage/parts area is huge!

You do this with a backplate, or with a Transpac?

If a backplate, what prevents the tank from rolling around in the tank bands?

Does DR have the same thing my original Zeagle set-up came with? The tank bands thread through the plate as you would expect with an STA-less system, but they have rubber 5-6" long pads threaded onto the straps to grip the tank and stop it rolling - seems to work, but not incredibly stable, but cheaper than an $80 STA. I did end up buying an STA later though, just to be in the "in-crowd" ;) It has the nice SS buckles, not like the original tank straps i had with the Zeagle - now in spares kit along with many other items.

Cam bands go through slots in wing and backplate and around tank. It can't roll around. Everything is tight and tank keeps wing in its position (although the wing is fixed also to BP with plastic screws).

I would like to see that. Theoretically you can do the same thing with any wing out there.

Yes, you can. I've seen few people doing the same with different type of wings (of course wings must have slots like Halcyon Pioneer, OxyCheq, etc.)

I purchased several items from Dive Rite Express, most recently a replacement Battery for my Mini wreck lite, good service and about average price. They did call dive Rite and locate the 'only stubby NMH battery around for me.
