I have had nothing but Good experiences with LP HOWEVER need to urge every buyer to be careful buying from them and make sure YOU know what you are getting. What is your warranty and who is it with? This is a big issue because they are not authorized dealers for at least some of the lines they carry.

So, if you buy from them, feel free but do it with knowledge on your side first. They ARE NOT the solution to every gear requirement. There are a ton of great online shops and a ton of great LDS' out there. Make sure you have the one that fits your requirements the best.

ie. Scubapro

Granted, I bought my SP mask from LP...but it's a mask. Not exactly something that I'm depending on to breathe from or hold my tank on my back etc. I'd never buy anything like a reg or BCD from them as there is no Scubapro warranty when you buy anything Scubapro from Leisurepro and you can't be sure that what you're getting hasn't been messed with.

Other than my tiff about LP and Scubapro I haven't had any bad run-ins with them...even though I've only prchased from them twice. A wetsuit (that I returned) and my mask. If I buy online I always try to buy from Scuba.com because their stuff offers full manufacters warranties and their sales people seem to give a darn and know more than the ones at LP.

I have had nothing but good experiences with LP. I've purchased stuff, exchanged stuff, and returned stuff. I exchanged an Aqualung Mythos mask 6 months after purchase, and broken (likely my fault), with no questions asked. They just sent me a new mask. I *think* someone set a tank on it! :D

I've done all this online, so I have not dealt with their customer service. Having purchased a lot of camera gear over the decades from NY sellers (they own LP), I can guess that their phone manners are not the best.

I can and do recommend LP. However ScubaToys matches their prices, and offers full manufactures warranties, so if ST has what you want, I'd suggest buying from them.

However we all own LP a debt of gratitude. They were the first to throw outrageous dive gear pricing out the window, and I thank them for that.

Nothing but good experiences with LP here. Probably close to $2,000 of gear purchased from them over a couple year period. Have also had great experiences with Dive Sports, Scuba.com, ZeagleExpress.... the list goes on.

I think that with any large business, there are going to be instances where they don't handle things as well as they should, plain goof, have a "bad hair day", whatever. I think the vast number of reports here on this board regarding LP are positive. Some are negative.

Best Wishes.

If is worth our life to ensure we receive the gear we need for the conditions we are going to dive. I had one experience in that I ordered a b/c for cold water diving, and was sent one for warm water diving. A buddy of mine in a class said his dad ordered a regulator for cold water diving and received one for warm water diving. Alas, I would hate to depend on getting the right gear only to find out that as a newbie, somebody was sold the wrong thing and didn't know until it was too late. Also remember, your gear can usually only be serviced by shops certified to repair said equipment by said manufacturer. So, if you are looking for some annual maintenance, you may find out that LP doesn't offer a quick solution for a repair. That's my two cents worth! They were great on the 100% refund to me though and then I took that money to my local dealer and was custom fitted with the proper b/c.

Can you elaborate on the difference between a "warm water" and a "cold water" BCD?

The cold water BC's have a fur collar and scarf :D

I'm guessing he meant lift capacity.... ;)

Hmmm...I just have to ask the question: You save a few bucks by getting stuff mail order. The stuff breaks. You send it back, then wait weeks upon weeks.

When I was a beginning diver, I did the LP thing, not knowing any better. I got sent used stuff as "new", I got defective stuff, too. I did get stuff that was okay, too.

Fast forward to my local dive shop, where I bought things. Something not right, doesn't fit quite right, no problem. They have people there to help me with fit, with information, and with any problems. Yeah, they "cost" a little bit more.

But then I look at all my lost dive time with gear I had to return, and wait over a month to have fixed/replaced. I guess it comes down to how much you value your in-water time, versus saving a few bucks.

LP serves its purpose, I'm sure. I just found that having a shop able to take care of any problem on stuff they sold me, instantly, is a way better use of my time.

I think you missed the point that some people here are saying. We have had GOOD experiences (that does mean we were not sent defective product, or used goods, or overcharged etc. or had to wait weeks to get product back). Just because you say it, does not mean our experiences will change. Maybe the next time our luck will run out.....but I doubt it. I have had more problems with my LDS that buying online and I have spent thousands through each (not just LP though).

And by the way....when I bought my Ikelite set-up for my P&S 2 years ago, I save $800+ buying from B&H Photo versus my Canadian local Ike dealer. I met with them and talked actual numbers and they could get NOWHERE near them. So, there is your couple of bucks. That was one purchase.

Yeah, they "cost" a little bit more.

The "problem" is "not" when things "cost" a "little" "more". It's when they "cost" a "lot" "more". Most local dive stores "charge" a "LOT" "more".

I'm "sorry" that you had a "bad" "experience" with "Leisurepro".

"Better" luck "next" time.

Oh yes, find a book on appropriate usage of "quotation" marks.
