Just returned from my LDS where I was filling my new tanks for a trip this weekend. Tanks are brand new OMS 112's with brand new OMS "H" Vlaves. At 2100#'s, the disk let go on one tank showering the whole back of the LDS with water from the fill tank, and taking two years off my life. What, why, how, ??? As I said, everything was new, this was only the second fill on the tanks / valves. The first fill was to 2500#'s. Thanks for any info.

Well...wrong burst disk installed, defective disk, using anything that says "OMS"? No, wait, I didn't mean that!

How about pressure gauge needs recalibration. I guess I would check the disks in the other tanks.

Is this the general opinion regarding OMS products, or have you just had bad experiences. I'm taking the first baby steps towards cave certification, and I like the look of OMS stuff, but would like to hear from those in the know.

I was "funnin" dude. I have a couple OMS valves on my deco tanks, among other things. Some folks think not so kindly of the big orange decal on tech gear.

If you're heading toward cave, I would check on the WKPP site and GUE sites for equipment reccommendations. I am not, nor will ever be a full DIR person, but they have excellent information on cave diving, and are not afraid to say why they prefer some piece of gear over another.

Did the explosion have any effect on your trousers?

I have two tanks in my garage right now that are OMS LP Steel 98s, and they're both filled to 2,900 psi (only rated for 2,640). Even though it was a slow fill, you've got me sweating now! :boom:

I consider 3000 psi a normal fill for my PST LP 95s. The bursk disk should be good for around 4000-4350 psi. The fact that one went that low indicated a bad disk, or some other problem.

In that case, I should be upset with a fill I recently got from one of the LDS', they said my tanks were ready to go with only 2,200 in them, but I didn't find out until I got to the dive site. I'm assuming they forgot to top them off, but either way, I plan on checking the PSI myself before I leave next time.

Hey Malammon, I assume your LDS is going to check and repair both tanks since they're so new, right?

I have a few OMS 98s and some old faber 95s (about 15 years old and still passing hydros).. They have always been filled (locally) to 3500... usually can talk a non local guy into 3000.. I have put higher pressure burst disks in mine but sounds like yours were defective.. its only a small piece of copper, burst disks should be changed at least every year although most people never change them....
