We were up to Burleigh Falls on Sat May 3/2003. The flow is much more diveable.
Only 3 of 7 damm gates were open.
This makes conditions very good for divers.
I met Butch, Tinman and I heard Brian B was going to be there, doing soem mapping exercises for a DM program.
We (Jerry Peter and I) of the Trident Club (Peterborough) found another good sight. If the falls are too fast). NOTE: THIS SIGHT IS ONLY ACCESSABLE OR SAFE WHEN THE LOCK SEASON IS CLOSED!
It's right in front of the locks, where they enter into Stoney Lake. We entered right at the lower lock. Enter the lock parking lot, and follow the little road way to the right. You can drive right down, under the highway (#28) and ther is parking in the shade. Don't block the roadway, this is a private cottage access.
There is a nice concrete staircase down to where the boats tie up waiting to enter the locks. About 8 feet of water in the locks 50° F at the surface (balmy). We swam out into the lake, made a clock wise circle max depth about 40 ft. Then back into the lock, to check it out. A nice big pickeral was lying in the rocks )about 4 - 5 lbs or so). We found 3 count them 3 perfectly good boat hooks in the lower lock (which was open).
We had a 45 minute dive, great fun, good visibilty (about 25 -30 feet).
Temp at bottom about 42°F.
We exited at the shore line , about 5 yds south of the lock entrance.
