We were up to Burleigh Falls on Sat May 3/2003. The flow is much more diveable.

Only 3 of 7 damm gates were open.
This makes conditions very good for divers.

I met Butch, Tinman and I heard Brian B was going to be there, doing soem mapping exercises for a DM program.

We (Jerry Peter and I) of the Trident Club (Peterborough) found another good sight. If the falls are too fast). NOTE: THIS SIGHT IS ONLY ACCESSABLE OR SAFE WHEN THE LOCK SEASON IS CLOSED!

It's right in front of the locks, where they enter into Stoney Lake. We entered right at the lower lock. Enter the lock parking lot, and follow the little road way to the right. You can drive right down, under the highway (#28) and ther is parking in the shade. Don't block the roadway, this is a private cottage access.
There is a nice concrete staircase down to where the boats tie up waiting to enter the locks. About 8 feet of water in the locks 50° F at the surface (balmy). We swam out into the lake, made a clock wise circle max depth about 40 ft. Then back into the lock, to check it out. A nice big pickeral was lying in the rocks )about 4 - 5 lbs or so). We found 3 count them 3 perfectly good boat hooks in the lower lock (which was open).
We had a 45 minute dive, great fun, good visibilty (about 25 -30 feet).
Temp at bottom about 42°F.
We exited at the shore line , about 5 yds south of the lock entrance.

..........We marked 54 at 55 ft.......vis was about 15 ft..........1st dive was great......second was aborted.......blown oring, empty tank (ask Tinman), and freeflow.............

Oh well at least we got wet......

Tank #2 only had 1000 PSI - that'll teach me to test all my tanks before heading out divin'. Ian (aka Ajaxscuba...a lurker around here) and I did the second dip at Burleigh to retrieve the flag and put the finishing touches on our Site Maps. Ian got the freeflow, Tim had the o-ring, I had the "empty" tank - things do happen in threes, or is it when you dive as a threesome...

On the bright side, I was able to show them the sites, flying through the gully, cart path, pickup sticks, 1st/2nd cable hill, even "Barbie the log" - you had to be there... The current still requires some hand-over-hand rock climbing coming back. Winter viz is gone, but so has the 30ish temp - 54 oF and sunshine, life doesn't get much better than this, at least not around here...

BrianB is working his butt off...to pay for his ultralight plane or the repair thereof...so I don't think he has been "wet" for a couple of weeks...withdrawl bound to be setting in...

I did my third dive...in my swimming pool hunting for more holes - found three (Where is my pool Search & Recovery cert. card?). I knew there was a good reason I got the drysuit, drygloves....

Hey Brian, how did your maps turn out.
Are they worth sharing with locals?
I can scan them and post jpgs if you wan to share

Ditto on that. I've finished my 4 th dive with Sci-tech Ring seals on my dry gloves. I'll never go wet again.
A little aquarium or oxygen tube slipped under the wrist seal keeps my hands dry, warm and prevents a squeeze.

Mmmm 5 finger dexterity, warm and dry, no fumbling with latex glove seals............. what's wrong with this picture?

NOTHING!THAT'S WHAT !

... I could fax a copy to TAM P'boro or to your office tomorrow Mike if you want to PM me a number. Before posting it here, I wouldn't mind your input on scale and relative location of some of the attractions.

I would like your input as to where on the cable you would bailout for the East entry, what initial heading to take for how long before heading South into the "Cedar bay" (this would be helpful for anyone who finds they can't or don't want to go back up the cable against a strong current or as an alternative after dealing with a problem in or on the surface with a buddy and deciding on options. I know you mentioned this to me before, but my short term memory is cluttered lately with the physics & chemistry of divin' , a bunch of funny formulas, and the alphabet of diving, A for Avogadro, B for Boyle, C for Charles, D for Dalton, E for EANx, K for Kelvin, H for Henry... I'm sure I'll get to the rest of the alphabet soon.

It would be nice to have a specific thread location here on Scubaboard for dive site maps to various spots with a means to have others update or comment on accuracy, additional features, etc.

...I had to take extra precautions as it was an overhead environment:

Tinamn..I can see the neighbours now.....

"Ralph....Ralph!!....Come here and look at our idiot neighbour swimming in that getup in May with an umbrella......Have you ever seen such a fool!!"

LOLOLOLOLOL....

Great pic...

I had to perform a rescue too.. Thank God the viz was so good or I would never been able to help this idiot who lost his fins..I'm only one specialty away from being a Pool Master Diver...
