We placed a nice new bouy on the Sport today. Thanks to Riverrat Dave, Jared, Bret, and Paul we were able "to get er done". We also measured the pipe so we should be able to replace the marker that was removed by the State. We are planning on placing the marker on May 29th.

Yup Ted, its the shipwreck Sport that he is talking of just off of Lexington. The Michigan Lake Divers Association have been raising funds to replace a historical marker that used to be on the wreck. The marker described the history of the boat and on the back side described the night of the sinking. The group has finally raised the funds for the replacement marker and as CMAN has eluded to, it will be placed on the wreck on May 29th.

It is good to see advancements in the Port Sanilac preserve. From my view, it is the preserve that has seen the least amount of attention in terms of support and care. Hopefully this is the beginning of a step in a positive direction for the preserve!

Yes it's the Sport off of Lexington. I agree that the Sanilac Preserve does receive the least amount of attention and we (Michigan Lake Divers) are making an effort to change that. We have more bouys going in on The Price, Mary Alice B, Col. A.B. Williams and Elizah Strong. Not sure when but that is our plans.

Hey I know a few guys who will be diving that preserve pretty direct like.:D:D:D

The Sanilac Preserve is an excellent diving destination. It has a great variety of wrecks and it's proximity to SE MI and Ontario makes it very accessible to a lot of divers, even for day trips.

To my knowledge, with the exception of Alpena/Thunder Bay Preserve, none of the Preserves receive any outside funding, State or Federal. So, it is up to the local dive community, dive shops and dive charter boats to promote, mark and buoy the wrecks and support the Preserves. Kudos to the MI Lake Divers for helping out/adopting their great local Preserve!

What?? There is diving? Where? I thought only diving was in a Quarry?? I thought the sport was the junk pile right next to the junk car just as your heading to that other junk on the way to the Tubes... Man I'm sure glad I checked this out.. I might have missed out. Can I get in on some of that preserve diving. I got a 3 mil shorty and an old Reg I picked up in Florida. That will do me wont it??

Real men don't wear wetsuits in the Great Lakes. Your reg sounds like it will be okay.
