I would say if it were just for the course and the course only, then it would be better than regular straps. But definitely invest in spring straps. I got mine cheap at www.spring-straps.com $35 and easy to install. What kind of fins do you have?
My buddy got some from there and they are very nice. Boogie711 (a member here) sells straps for Mares fins.

Actually, the crux of my question is simply whether anyone knows for sure if a bungee strap retainer on a fin is DIR compliant (and could be used in the DIR-F course).
