I have a Scubapro Ladyhawk with a drop-down pocket that closes with a zipper. The zipper broke with the slider breaking into two pieces. I am thinking of sewing a velcro closure to keep it shut. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any other solutions? I really don't want to send it to be repaired.

Bring it to a local tailor, awning shop or maybe even a cobbler. The slider is a replaceable component.

Not only is the slider replaceable, it is fairly easy to do yourself. Google "zipper repair" for some DIY ways. Also try www.sailrite.com for YKK and RIRI zipper sliders. There are some other sites out there with instructions and the components to do it.

Thanks for the information. Rick, the site for the zipper slider was right on time. I'm going to order a few (in case one breaks) and try to do it myself. Since I was able to repair it the first time it happened, I think I will be able to fix it with a new slider.

I agree, the pocket is silly, but I pick up trash when I dive. There has been an amazing amount of fishing line and weird things under water since the tropical storms and hurricane Ike passed by. In my attempt to close the pocket to keep the big stuff from floating out, the zipper broke. I have since mounted a utility pocket on my webbing to put my finds in.

Gorillia tape? You mean there's something better than Duct tape? Does it act like Velcro? Let me know more about it Randy.

I've heard it's better than duct tape. I got a roll from Lowe's the other day. I think it's good stuff, but think it will leave a huge mess if you try to peel it off.

cool, sounds like a good use for that pocket, but I'm not surprised the zipper broke doing that. Here's a crazy idea (if you sew or know someone who does.) Make a slightly bigger pocket out of mesh fabric, with a drawstring and maybe a cordlock. Cut off the old pocket leaving some fabric, and sew the new pocket to it. BC with a built in trash bag!
