To the OP, glad the trip went well. These days we can rely on a significant advancement in bone plate design known as locking plates, that render a variety of bone fixation constructs (that previously were incapable of safely bearing weight with then-current fixation technology and concepts) to accept early weight bearing and force loading. Assuming of course proper surgical technique and selection.
