Here's my whine:

- People that broadcast to the world that they saw a particular item for auction on eBay (unless they are the seller). You can find some great deals on 'used', or new for that matter, quality scuba gear on eBay. You lock in and 'watch' a particular item that noone else seems interested in and you get all excited. "Am I really going to get that 21 HID canister light for only $500?!" Then some 'blabby gotta tell everyone' has to go and shout to the world, "Hey everyone, I'm not interested, but there is a great deal with no reserve on a such and such an item on eBay right now! Go check it out cause it's only got one day left." All of a sudden, there's 24 bids in 6 hours driving the price up to within pennies of the MSRP. Now, I'm a last minute bidder. No sense in showing your hand to soon like all the amatures bidders out there. Bid what you'd pay seconds before the auction ends and walla, the eBay gods are kind today, "You are the winning bidder!" But these blabber mouths ruin it for those of us addicted to eBay. I've even seen the bids go over the MSRP after these 'marketiers' of other people's quests get involved. I wanna kick some butts!

My second whine:

- People who last minute bid $1.00 higher than me because their internet connection is faster! :)

It's all just one bid conspiracy me's thinks!

Haven't done much on e-Bay lately, except sell some kid clothes & toys. But sure would like to see that happen to my acutions. Somehow, there's not as much enthusiasim for Barbie- circa 2002 as there is over in Scuba. Go figure. lol

'02 Barbie! What's she wearing? I'll start the bidding at...

We need an auction here on SB.

I couldn't agree more. I put a lot of time into searching for misspelled or poorly worded auctions that attract zero attention and then really resent someone who stumbles on it more or less accidentally with no interest what so ever in buying it telling the world where to find it. I mean really, if they had an interest in buying they would keep their mouths shut like the rest of us.

And I second the complaint about ill informed morons on e-bay who run the bids up over MSRP, over what they could get the item new at leisure pro, or at least well over what it is worth. These I suspect are the same bidders who then show up on the board a week or so later complaining they got screwed buying on e-bay. Serves 'em right.

I figure that sooner or later the people that will pay more than LP or retail will have what they want and will not be bidding and then I can get a deal on what I need. Just need patience and constant monitoring. The problem these people create is to give the ebay sellers a false sense of value for their products. I see too many items at a minimum bid price over what I would pay.

I got a new never wet Halcyon Explorer wing for $225.51 the other day. There was no way I was going to broadcast that auction to anyone on this board. :) Not that I don't like you guys, but I know it would have gone for more. There were only two bidders including me. If anyone needs it, it may be for sale next week for $300. :) But probably not.

1. Proxy bidding (which is how ebay works) works for the HIGHEST bidder, not the latest bidder. If you had put in your true max bid when you placed your bid, you would have no regrets.

2. Ever hear of esnipe? ;)

I love beating the bidder that puts in one bid at time. If you out bid him early, he just puts in another bid driving the price up. But if you bid last second, he can't react fast enough. I also like beating people by just a few cents. If an item is new and retails for $X, then most will pay within a percentage of X, lest it be not worth it. Figuring out what X is and then increasing it by a few cents is really fun. The Halcyon wing recieved two final bids seconds before the close of the auction. Mine via proxy was a few cents higher than the other bidder who also had a max proxy bid. I just waited until the last second to enter mine.

Oh my god! I'm guilty of my whine! Oh the shame. Did I mention I'm an addict? :) eBay is like gambling on a limit!
