Has anyone ever done the Breakers reef shore dive off the hotel in Palm Beach? Saw a special on the Travel Channel this weekend where people were snorkeling it, but it looked pretty good for a dive. At least 20 feet depth or so and great viz. Thinking about trying it this weekend. Any advice on rules and/or entry points would be fantastic.

Hmmm. as far as I know, there really isn't any available (or should I say accessible) shore diving in that immediate area.

The Breakers is extremely particular about their beachfront, being very exclusive, and you cannot walk through, as there are walls built on either end of "their" beach. If yout ry, you are politely escorted away.... If there is reef directly off the hotel, I've not heard of it.

There is a public beach within a 1/2 mile south of there, but I've never seen a diver or even snorkeler there. From the few times I've been there, there isn't much more than sand and some rocks (above water).
To my knowledge, pretty much all the diving in the immediate area is by boat (with the exception of the Blue Heron Bridge).

I have the Jupiter to Hollywood Shore Diving Booklet, and it says there is a good shore dive there, and I believe they tell you to enter from a public beach which is just North of the hotel. As far as the Blue Heron dive, I've driven over that bridge a ton of times, and I've never seen anyone diving and I can't figure out how anyone can dive there with all those fisherman! Please let me know the secret!

When I was there (4 years ago?) there was a pool at the south side of the hotel at the end of the large (staff?) parking lot where they were charging (I assume non-guests) $5 to get to the beach.
There is a dive shop on the pool deck. The reef is to the left of the pool maybe 50'. You should be able to see it. If not ,ask the dive shop guy or look for flags. I never saw anyone dive it from the beach, only boats, so I don't know if they let divers in. Maybe you should call the Breakers dive shop and ask. The reef is like a big dome in the sand. I would have dove it, but was occupied with
non diver. Its a good snorkel, if they won't let you dive. Good luck.

What? You need to pull into Phil Foster Park then. Every time I've dove there, there's been literally DOZENS of divers out. It's a great dive, and I've got some of my best pictures from underneath the bridge. It's a highly recommended site.

Here's a great link with info on the dive site.
