Has anyone used some of the modern high test braided fishing lines on a dsmb? They are a lot thinner and stronger than typical cave line.

Might they have a propensity to twist more than the standard cave line? That could make winding a challenge.

How visible are they in the water? Typically fishing line disappears in the water so fish don't see it. Pretty much the opposite of what you want on a reel/spool
Braided looks just like string, monofilament is clear.

Not tried it, but I did consider it. I didn't think the handling characteristics would be as usable as cave line. Again though, I never tried it.

I use extremely strong dynema line on my reel when towing a float, it is also about 600 lb test. It sometimes gets abused when contacting a wreck, so the added abrasion resistance and strength is welcome. for use on an smb? probably not really necessary, but it should work, just spensive....

I think braided downrigger line would work well.....

I haven't tried braid on a spool, but I have fished with it. I bought $$$ of braid to load up all my reels - that's what the pros said I needed to do - so of course I did it. That stuff will snarl and get knots if you just look at it. I can't even figure out how it gets knots in it, but it does. And impossible to untangle when it does. So i went and bought $$$ of fluorocarbon to replace the new braid. I wouldn't put it on a spool just based on my experience fishing with it, but who knows, might work like a charm.

Had to laugh, Did the same thing. Would never fish with that stuff again.
