What are most of you who use a BP/Wing doing for weights? I am going to take my rig on a warm water diving trip and am wondering if I should just use a belt or if I should consider other options like the Halcyon ACB system. Also, does anyone have any suggestions on who has the best prices on Halcyon equipment (I realize best price is relative with Halcyon). Thanks in advance.

This has been discussed at great length. You can do a search on those questions and get many posts for information.

There is no best price for Halcyon. Thats why we have FredT and Oxycheq ;)

I use a regular weight belt that was made by one of our members(heath) a while that utilizes soft weights. Depending if you want ditchable or non ditchable weights you can buy a heavier BP, heavier STA or even pour some lead in the center channel(p-weight) Keep in mind it is always good to have a form of ditchable weight.

Unfortunately Halcyon has that price protection thing going on so at best you might get free shipping or a small discount or a combo of both. I guess every little bit helps ;)

I got into the BP/W system to avoid weight on the belt among other benefits. Most of my weight is in the plate/steel tank (not actually "weight", but better buoyancy characteristics). What little weight I use (3# - 6# depending on tank or plate type/wetsuit etc.) is on a standard weight belt with std. lead weights (standard webbing/FredT buckle) Nice and simple.

The only time I have to use weight with my BP/W is when I'm diving my 6.5 farmer john/jacket. I that case I use the Dive Rite 16 pound ditchable weight pouches and 2 tank trim pouches.
Using a 2/3 mil full suit in salt water I require no wieght at all.

Different people, different shapes, sizes and inherent buoyancy . . .

Looks like I will go with a regular belt and, hopefully, a very small amount of lead. Thanks for all the replies.

MechDiver - Sorry, I did a quick search, but got too much junk. In the future, I will try a little harder. Also, I am going with FredT for the plate, so my question on cost was more related to the wing (thinking of the Halcyon Pioneer for Caribbean travel).

I also use the diver rite weight system. The pouches fit on the harness in the corners where the waist and shoulder straps meet and keep the weight much closer to the backplate. This helps prevent the "turns you face down" problem some people have with a BP/Wing with a weight belt.

I had a set of the Halcyon pouches but e-bayed them. They were way too bulky, carried the weights too far forward and offerred very little advantage over a weight belt.

Consequently, my order of preference based on experience is:
1) DR 16 or 32 lb pouches
2) Regular weight belt.
3) Halcyon weight system.

I now use a pair of XS Scuba weight pockets on the harness - $5.95 ea from LeisurePro.

Now that is a solution I can live with. Keepin' it simple. If I don't like the pockets, can switch back to a belt and only out twelve bucks. Thanks for the suggestion!
