I have decided to upgrade to a BP/Wing set up and I've been researching pricing online before trying to work out a deal with my LDS. They get 1st chance before I buy online. They don't have to match, but they better come close.

I dive mostly cold water 38-55F with a Bare XCD2 drysuit, 22lbs of lead, a single E8-130 and sometimes a pony bottle. In warm water 56-65F I switch to my Tilos 7mil 1 piece and drop down to 10lbs of lead. I will keep using my BCD and 3mil shorty for the hot stuff 70F +

The set up I was looking to put together is as follows:

Hammer Head SS BP 5.5lb with STA 5.5lb $100
2" Webbing harness with 5 SS D rings $45
Oxycheq 30# or 45# singnature series single wing $285
Integrated weight system approx 10-16lbs and $130
2 tank cam straps with SS buckles $60

Total = $620 plus shipping

I have also looked at a comparable complete Halycon Eclipse system for $700
as well as a Dive Rite package for $600

Three questions.
1) Is this a decent setup for a rec diver moving towards tech?
2) Does $600-$700 seem about right for a complete single tank BP/Wing set up?
3) Any suggestions on a better configuration with approximate price?

I got the hammerhead and a 45lb dive rite wing. Fits beautiful. I paid about 130 (?) bucks for the plate with sta and webbing kit and 280 for the wing. love the setup

go to www.northeastscubasupply.com and get a full DR, fully warranteed by DR ...plate, pouches, wing , and harness for $449 or less including shipping. Beat the heck out of $600 by my old timie math

I have everything you listed in the first list, except the Hammer Head plate, mine is DR. Personally, if I had it to do over again, I'd go with the Deep Sea Supply plate. You can get it with weight plates that actually mount on the plate and it comes standard with rubber covered slots for the webbing. I dove this plate and really liked it.

Skip Halcyon, over priced and no better than anything else.

I got a Dive Rite Stainless Steel Back Plate, harness, weight pouches, and Classic wing (59lbs of lift for doubles) for $329 from an LDS as a price match from NE Scuba Supply. I was buying a total of $1100 worth of gear so I was given this as a discount but you could definitely be in a BP/W system for way less than $700.

Just what I was referring to. Not sure if they still had this listed as a special.

Yes they do. I just placed an order with John for a SS plate, deluxe harness, 2 cam bands (not SS) and a Trek wing for 380 (including shipping). Tha famous specials are DiveRite even though the pictures are not!

I'm not a big fan of the Dive Rite Plates although I really like their wings. If you compare the Dive Rite plate to a Hammerhead or Fred T they look pretty lame. The Deep Sea plates look nice but way to rich for my budget. The plastic liners are a nice touch but I can wrap my slots with bicycle tube for free and save a hundred bucks.
