Done alot of diving recently with my DSS singles rig and love it. I will never go back to a jacket. Ive got my rig well configured for my style: very minimalist/streamlined but not DIR. I'm a fiddler and I like to try things out with my gear. I'm wondering if anyone has any "tricks of the trade" for a BP/W setup or any do-it-yourself changes you've made to your rig that I could play around with?

Two things. I replaced the flimsy rubber thingamibobs that connect the wings to the backplate with stainless steel bolts and lock nuts. Also, the DSS is so sturdy and "sticks" to you so well, I have almost never worn the crotch strap. I ddsconnected it on my last four or five dives and did not notice that it was not there.

I agree, I love the thingamibobs.

Yeah I was unsure about the thingsmibobs as well...but they work well and dont present any sort of failure point when diving.

Has anyone turned their inflator hose outboard so that the inflate button faces away rather than inboard? I like it faced that way high up on my shoulder.

If you need extra weight but don't have the additional weight plates, then putting two xs scuba weight belt pockets on the belt strap (as close to the plate as possible is a nice alternative to a weight belt. You can lock them down with keepers.

Does that pose problems with oral inflation?

Honestly, oral inflation with the inflator hose as short as it is on the DSS rig is pretty tricky for me anyway.
