Bolt snaps and zip ties. Or compact gear retractors. All you should ever need to attach any essential piece of gear. Underwater noisemakers, tons of dive knives, unnecessary accessories should be avoided.

I have my SMB in 2 bungy loops in holes on the bottom of my bp under the wing.

I use a Dive Rite weight pocket attached to the harness, because I wanted a smallish pocket, but there are larger ones and you could use two.

I added an oms mask pouch for odds and ends.

I tried the dive rite thigh pocket and it would not hold in place, kept rotating and coming loose.

My wife and I just go the XS pocket shorts. They are a much better solution, and they transfer from our 3 mil, to a 7 mil, to a drysuit, with only one investment. The pockets are not "tech large" but they are large enought to hold a 150' sidewinder-style reel plus a large smb in one pocket, and a snorkel, slate or wetnotes, even a spare mask in the other with a few finger spools thrown in.

I have my whistle zip-tied to my inflator hose for instant access as I don't want to dig through pockets under the stress of an emergency (the most likely time you will need it).

Welcome to the wonderful workd of bp/w! My wife tried one on at about dive number 25 and instantly refused to dive with anything else. We have been diving them the past 2.5 years now, about 150 dives.

Nothing is better that pockets sewn or glued on each of your exposure protection suits, but that adds up.

Just did two dives on pocket shorts. Great solution to the problem.

Try the Halcyon weighted pocket. I prefer it over the Dive Rite pocket.
The Dive Right pocket is a little too small, and slips to the front of your thigh while diving.
The Halcyon one is belt mounted, and is bigger.
Get the new weighted one. It mounts differently than the old one.
The new pocket is the "weighted" version. It has an internal pocket that holds up to 5 lbs.

This one?

The XS shorts we already have, and I do not like. They do not stay up. I don't think I have ever bought a piece of clothing *EVER* that fits with an elastic strap to stay up. I need a belt!

Yes Sir!

That's the one. I just bought one for a singles rig where I'll be diving a wetsuit, and don't want to install pockets on the suit.
The one in your link is the new version.

The older one has a zipper on top instead of a flap, and doesn't have the internal weight pocket. Even if you don't think you'll ever have a need for the internal weight pocket, it's nice to have an option of adding a little weight while getting weighting dialed in.

As for the X-shorts. I don't use them, but if you used a free dive weight belt, it would easily hold those shorts up.

I dive with free dive weight belts anyway, because I believe they are superior to anything else out there. I have a few different ones, I would recommend the Mako belts. Their prices are very reasonable.

MAKO Freedive Weight Belt

Maybe try that, before spending money on the Halcyon pocket.

Cheers,
Mitch

The crotch strap doesn't keep them in place?
