Been there 3 years running, and I must admit, besides wearing one myself, I've not seen an ocean diver with one.

Couple of snickers, but that is expected.

For those of you who have diving experience in Coz, how often do you see divers kitted up in DIR/HOG style with Backplate/Wings and long hose? I made about 16 dives in Kona last year and never saw another BP/W or LH. Is it more common in Coz?

For those of you who dive this config, do you/will you adjust your rig at all for Coz diving? Maybe even just add pocket snorkel?

My last trip to Coz was my first solo trip. On the day I arrived I planned on doing a quick shore dive to make sure everything was ok with my rig and weighting. I was conserned that the shop might have problem with me going solo. I went down and grabbed a tank, and started gearing up, waiting for the "buddy" question. Instead I got oohs and ahhs from the dive shop staff over my rig. They loved it and were clearly jealous :D.

No, I've never seen a BP/Wing diver in Coz on the open water dives, but the experience above is one I've seen before. Dive shop staff going googly over my rig. On the boat I usualy get a lot of "are you a techincal diver" questions. While the real answer is probably "maybe" depending on the definition. I usually just explain why I like my rig for recreational diving. The only time I've ever received negative feedback about my rig is from dive shop owners who would rather I be diving their equipment.

Go for a dive on the "Yellow Rose" with Dive Cozumel. This is the technical shop on the island.

Thought you only dove with Tony. Dive Cozumel is a great shop.

Actually,it's Troy. But.....I have have been going to Coz for sometime and have been out with many dive opps. In fact at christmas when there was a Norte, Troy put me on a Papa Hogs boat as it was big enough to go out. I allways wanted to try out Papa Hogs.

We usually fill the boat with DIR divers, but that isn't the same as seeing any others. Don't need to change a thing. Most people can easily swim up against a stainless plate anyway. That is all I wear with a 3mm suit. Sew a pocket on the leg of your suit just like you would your drysuit and you don't need to change a thing. I don't have much use for a snorkel.
