I'm interested in purchasing a BP/W but have a concern.
I rented a transpac (which I did like) a few weeks ago. The directions I that I was given included to tighten the crotch strap until it was just slightly uncomfortable on land.

I discovered though that when I was in the water and particularly on the surface that the strap had the uncomfortable tendency to ride up into my rear.

So, is this just how it is or was something wrong?

I felt quite violated on that dive.

I don't know about Transpac's, but there is no need to tighten the crotch strap on a BP&W until "it's slightly uncomfortable on land"

I wear mine loose, because when I do shutdowns with double 130's I cant quite reach, so I aim my head down and let the tanks slide up (down) my back so I can reach the valves, and the crotch strap actully stops the tanks in the right place for the shutdown, I am sure this is not the common use, but it has worked for me

i keep my crotchstrap snug so that the waist parts hit low on my hips, but it's still not uncomfortable. i'd say it was too tight, since most guys keep it loose enough to see daylight between their crotch strap & their crotch.

I have all my straps snug, but not uncomfortable when on land. They all become perfect once they get wet.

Ditto on what everyone else said. However, if your strap was a 1" strap, you may consider a 2" strap as there is less of an ability for it to make you feel "violated".

Plus, if you over-inflate the wing (more than necessary to keep your face out of the water) you're going to cause the crotch strap to pull up.

Sort of a "DIR wedgie" if you will...

I don't ever do anything with the words "uncomfortable" and "crotch" in the same sentence. For awhile I tried diving with the crotch strap on/off and found for single tank recreational diving it didn't make a huge difference. I did notice my rig was slightly more stable when I'm upside down looking under ledges so now I dive with a crotch strap, but it's not too snug.
