I did 2 dives with Loggerhead Charters yesterday morning.
Leaving Orlando at 4am on the morning that Daylight Savings Time started was a particular treat. I recommend that everyone do that at least once. It establishes how dedicated you are to going diving! By daylight, though, we were pulling into Boynton Beach and signing in for our charter.
It was a beautiful day to be out on the water. Warm and sunny topside, 75 on the bottom. The first dive was a wreck, the Budweiser, at 96 feet. There was a pretty stiff bottom current and maybe 35' viz. Plenty of barracuda hanging around the wreck to see what was happening.
The second dive was a reef. Like the rest of the reef systems in Boynton Beach, it was really beautiful, though the temp was 74 and I was getting pretty cold by the end of the 53 minute drift. Any more neoprene and I'm going to need to tie on an anvil to descend, so I'm glad the water is startin to warm up at last.
Some of the other divers did a 90 minute 35' sand dive closer to shore while the rest of us did the reef. They came back with some great sightings, including seahorses and octopi, so that's an option for next time... though I might save a 90 minute dive for warm-water season.
All in all, it was a great day to be on (and in) the water in South Florida.
