We will be on Oahu on the 25th of this month and Maui on the 29th. Is this something to worry about or is it a monthly cycle?

you should be safe, about 10 days after full moon is when they come to visit. Plus they are more of a problem for shore divers than boat divers

kidspot:
now that's some serious jelly protection ... got the matching gloves and boots too?
umm... yeaaah.. but i find i'm a just a bit over-weighted with the 50 lb boots (each) :11:

glen.. yes, it a monthly thing.. kinda like.. err, well, nevermind :eyebrow:
but usually 8-10 days after a full-moon..

in May.. the full-moon appears on 1 May and 31 May..
so the vuls were/are 9-11 May and 8-10 Jun.

therefore, your visit 25-29 May should be relatively jelly-free.

[dang lisa.. you're too fast :]

I got stung last year in Maui by a box jelly. It was about 8 hours of burning pain and a red welt but it went away with no problems. I get stung by Lions Mane jellies here in the Northwest all summer and they don't bother me but that box jelly was no picinic.
