Description of what I was suppose to get :
"Luxfer 30cf Aluminum tank, no paint with Stainless Steel Stage Strap. Your choice of valve: Thermo or OMS both din and come with yoke insert. 1st Hydro was 94' last Hydro and VIP was 08/2009."
Description of what I got :
I suspect newer tank made in 2005 with Hydro DUE in 12/2010 (only has the one Hydro date on it) the VIP is due March 2009. I was interested in the tank forsale as it just passed Hydro figuring I have 5 years to go, but ended up with one that needs one in a year and who knows what will happen then. Also the Thermo valve DIN Yoke insert hex is starting to strip looks beat. I have not tried to take to take it out yet.
This cost me $120 shipped.

I understand it is used but a little miffed on the Hydro. I figure there is 1/5 of Hydro life left vs 5/5. Hydros are not cheap plus it is a gamble. Perhaps there is not to much to worry about as it is 2005 tank.
As a seller what would you do to fix this ?
As a buyer would you be at all concerned or ask seller to fork over 4/5 of a hydro VIP cost ?
Please share your thoughts.

Bummer, sorry to hear that. Sure, I'd say it's fair to ask for a portion of the hydro cost, though I wouldn't bet on collecting anything.

Also, VIP was disclosed to be expired anyways so it doesn't matter if it was 8/09 or 3/09. Not that there's all that much more value for a newer tank, but you did get an 2005 vs. 1994, that's worth something. Is it actually a Luxfer?

Sounds like you have a legitimate gripe. If the seller doesn't correct this, I'd sure wonder why.

Did the seller send the wrong tank to you? The descriptions are as different as night and day.

I did get a Luxfer 30cf and I sent him a PM asking if he sent the wrong one and that I am not very happy which he has not replied to yet. I really do not want to ship it back and wait for another tank. I bought it Oct 28 and just got it today. It did take him a little while to ship it out as he had some personal issues which I understand, but ***.

Yes you do have a problem, but I don't think its too large.
What do hydros cost in your area ? I pay $15.00 for mine. (fire protection company)
What does a vis cost in your area ? I paid $15.00 to $20.00 depending where I went.
Will you be using this as a din or yoke cylinder ? If the threads on the valve are good, a new insert can be found on E-bay for about $10.00. If the valve has bad threads, whole nother story.
So if you add up all of the costs ,($12.00 for the hydro 4/5ths, ? ($) on the vis. because your shop may not like filling an empty cylinder, din insert ? (used ) cylinder was sold as used. Then add in the value of a much newer cylinder, (10 years newer) not sure what value to add in for this.

So I would say you should have been told that you were going to be getting a newer cylinder with a much shorter hydro life. At most I would think he/she should offer to give you $10.00 to $15.00 max for the problems.

I know it's "buyer beware", but I really hope that this was a non-diver, who just used this board to rip you off. I'm naive enough to believe that real divers will not rip off fellow divers - at least that what I have mostly found.

So I found the original ad here where the tank was sold. He included a pic of the tank, sitting beside another tank. (I'm not including a link to it as I want you to be able to resolve it in private first before folks bash him, etc).

In the description, he says the tank for sale is "the one on the right in the pic".

However, I think you got the tank "on the left" in the pic. If you zoom in the pic, you can clearly see that it's "born on date" hydro was 12/05.

Other than that, both tanks look almost the same.

So I'm guessing that he either sent you the wrong tank.... or put the wrong date description in the sale. (seems like it could easily be done).

Hopefully you'll get a positive resolution on this with him. He hasn't been online since 8am yesterday. so maybe he just hasn't gotten the PM yet.

Yep, you got the one on the left(in the ad picture).........IMO, a little money is due back you-how much, depends--?75% of the cost of a hydro......good luck........Not a ton of money but still some.....

EDIT: the above OR seller pays for you to return the wrong one back & he send you the proper one.......

$15 for a Hydro I want to go where you go for Hydros. You should offer a service for other board members : ) They are quite a bit higher around here.
