I'm pretty sure that I have a reel hanging around so thats what Im lookin at ...Just not sure what wing size I will finally go with. Im 6' 210lbs athletic so im not on the lite size.

Your body weight has nothing to do with the size wing you'll need.

You don't need a reel, just a spool for shooting a lift bag.

SOme of us do shoot a lift bag with a reel...

Does GUE require that you use a spool for DIR-F????

I'm not sure that's what he was saying. I think Aaron was just implying that a spool is cheaper.

On a side note, if you've not shot a bag with a spool. Give it a try, it's a hell of a lot nicer then using a reel.

2. Wing.....30 or 45 lb Oxycheq wing ( don't think the Dir people will appreciate that lol)
I don't think DIR-compliant people have any problem with Oxycheq. From what I've heard/read, it's a great wing.

The idea is to stay away from double bladders, overly long inflator hoses, and excessively large lift capacites.

I know that that the Gue guys won;t have a problem with a Oxycheq wing. I just wanted to see if any Halcyon defenders would flare up hahah.
Yeah I dive up here so i will most likely will go with the 45lb wing and a 6lb ss plate.

Actually, I think you do need a spool (vs a reel) for the class, I might be wrong though.

Danny, I have an 70# oxycheq (which I love) and I'm taking this class so you won't be the only one with some non-halycon gear. In fact, I think I'm going to be taking the attention off anyone else's gear problems when they see my non-focusable (6 degress) DR canister light and my OMS manifold - that's not going to be pretty.

I'm really excited about this class, I'm sure they are going to put us though the ringer, but, it should be some fun too. Come spring we should get toghter for some serious practice. I think I'm one of the least experinced guys, so I'm going to be working my ass off to get ready for this class so I can the most out of it.

We should get together..my dive buddy (my father) just stoppeddiving which leaves me buddieless :( . Don't feel bad about experience cause im prob going to be the youngest at 21. Everyone usually thinks that the young guy doesn;t know what he is doing either. Just becuase im young doesn't mean I don;t know a thing or two....ooppss surprise my father has been diving since 61 and just maybe he taught me something.....haha. You not having alot of experience will help you more in this class because you are not going to have to relearn lots of things. Its harder for the more experienced divers to learn diving a different way.

So you must be bringing your doubles with you to the class im assuming? unless you are just a lift freak lol. I am prob going to bring singles.

Yes. From the standard's document:

2.1.2.10 Required Equipment:
10. One spool with 100 feet of line per diver

and
2.1.2.9
7. Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to deploy a spool and surface marker.

Yup, all I have is doubles right now, but, if I have a singles rig by spring may consider that, I'm not sure right now.

I'm not that much older thatn you (25) and I still dive quite a bit with my father (another guy that's been doing it since the 60s), but, he's really not looking to get in tech diving at all.
