Booties... Yes or No??

I can't imagine diving on this island without my booties! My feet are bleeding just thinking about the concept of no booties! Between the sharp lava rock on the shore dives and the waffle looking non-slip rubber mats on the boats, the booties are a must.

Definitely wear booties if you have them. 3mm full suit too!! Shorties will lead to blood loss...

I will politely disagree with you there... being a larger woman with my own insulation, I prefer a shorty so that I don't overheat on the hike down to the entry point or while waiting for everyone else on the boat to get their gear on. Yes, my legs are a bit scarred (not to mention the very obvious tan line). Personally, I will deal with a little blood loss than overheating. But that's me. Everyone else I dive with get chilly while I stay very comfortable!

YOU obviously don't have any razor sharp lava rock formations in FL, nor sea urchins, nor broken glass, nor rusty bolts on dive boats, nor jagged portals on wrecks, nor nor nor :biggrin3:

besides.. this is the HI forum..
and the OP was askin' about HI NOT FL.. and not about YOUR soft sandy beaches..
so.. get OUT!

I knew this was coming. I HAVE BEEN DIVING IN HI!!!!! We were talking about booties being safer. I agree about the sharp lava rocks, I might wear booties then, but on a boat? No way. I have these things, I think they call them shoes or something like that, but then again I was up drinkin' all night, who knows. Jagged portals on wrecks, let me think, reminds of something I heard once at some drunkin' awesome party bar, Oh yeah, don't kick the urchins, coral, or jagged portals on wrecks. You guys in HI I thought were "one with the ocean" and hold hands singing songs of love for your brothers the sea creatures before each dive. Or is it you take reef hugging just a tad too far. Aren't you guys quasi Californians or something. But don't get me wrong, I'm laughing my butt off right now.

It's amazing how bad some of that non-skid can be. The one that kills my feet is the stuff with little square holes and knobs sticking up looking like the top of legos, that stuff usually gets to me after about 3 days.

I agree, cus I have some real sissy feet..even when on a boat... so I guess the answer is YES, I'll bring the booties.

Just didn't want to look like a tourist from the great white north.... Guess I better get to the tanning booth as well.

And oh yeah, booties. Always use them, partly because all my fins are open heel, would use them anyway for protection and traction. I use low cut booties here, high top 5mm for cold water.
