I only have 2 days to Bonaire flight. ... can i get this in Wal-Mart or sports auth or dick sporting etc? Lds only has $35 bottie sock.... Thx

Btw link doesn't work

ANY lycra / poly sock will do, Wal-Mart, any sporting goods store - the key is thin, light, no natural fibers - and cheap.

I am another one that just uses cheap athletic socks from Costco when diving with my wetsuit booties to prevent chaffing. I can throw them out without feeling guilty at all since they are so cheap.

Thanks all especially Carter. ...

Guess I'm doing Wal-Mart ing tomorrow.

Another question:

I'm carrying the bcd in check in bags. Do i have to wrap it in something or can it take beating if bag is tossed around?

Another dumb question:
I took the reg of its circular casing with a zipper. Now I'm not sure I'm putting it back in right. Can i learn this from u all?

These are life support and rental equipment that's why I'm asking. ..plus I'm so excited about the trip i can't even sleep:D

I don't know of any tricks for winding the reg hoses so that you can store the reg set back in its bag. Just wind them and be careful not to kink the hoses. (That's why the reg bag is round--to facilitate this.) I take the reg bag on the plane as a carry-on or "personal item" and check a larger bag that holds my BC, wetsuit, clothes, etc. The BC is pretty tough--it will be fine in your checked bag. In fact, the reg set would probably be fine in your checked bag, too, but many of us have concerns over lost baggage and theft. Some people try to take EVERYTHING as carry-on baggage, but that is a feat.

Lost baggage indeed sucks. On a trip to Bonaire last year my checked bag (BCD, wetsuit, clothes) took a 2-day side trip to Venezuela without me when we changed planes on Curacao. The dive op let me borrow a BC and wetsuit for free (very kind!), but that was two days out of a week that I had to use gear that I was not accustomed to. There are many threads on SB about how to pack dive gear for a trip, including tips for carrying-on more items instead of checking them.

My first solution to chafing on a 3 day live aboard was to wrap my toes with Duct Tape, then put on the boot. It works fine, but after a couple of separate incidents I broke down and bought some dive socks which work just as well and are more cosmetically appealing.

There is no problem that can't be solved with a liberal application of sex, tequila, money, duct tape, or high explosives, not necessarily in that order.

I just tell people go get cheap men's dress socks. Get the nylon ones, not cotton. They dry fast. They prevent irritation from the booties. They facilitate putting the booties on/taking them off and getting a long wetsuit over your feet. If they get wrecked after your dives, just toss 'em. They're cheap enough.

Just got 2 sets pair of nylon socks from target hoping they'd last a week. Also gonna take other dress socks. Thanks all.

Lastly before I go. ..

My wet suits been hanging for a month. Heard it should never be folded?

Any special way it has to be taken or packed in check in bag? Is it ok i fold it minimally just before i lock the bag before flying?

Thanks:D

I stuff my wetsuits in all kinds of crazy ways to protect other things that are more valuable when I pack for a trip...never had any issues.

. . .

I believe the advice to "never" fold a wetsuit means never put a folded wetsuit in long-term storage. A folded wetsuit in your luggage for a few days or a week is not going to harm it. However, storing it for months in a folded state may permanently crease it.
