Bootie socks?

For "normal dives" I do not use dive socks.
For swimming laps in the pool with open heel fins I wear them. Otherwise I get chaffing around lap 60.
For cold cold water dives in a wet suit I sometimes wear them for extra insulation.

Caution: I find that when I wear the socks in my dive boots that the boot can slide off when removing fins if I am not careful. Having the boot come off can be a problem obviously.

I started wearing the Lycra socks with my new boots, which lightly rub my big toes. I wouldn't dive without them now.

You know you can use white athletic socks just fine...either inside the bootie, or with full foot fins instead of neoprene socks....looks kid of funny, but inside a booty no one will know...and you won't be ripped off by paying for something you already had.

I have been diving with Lycra socks for years after a buddy recommended them. They are especially good for repetitive dives like when I am diving Bonaire and will do 3 -5 dives a day. I wear the Lycra socks when I'm diving wet. They help prevent blisters and chaffing. And they make getting in and out of a wet bootie much easier.

I have been wearing dive socks for a long time, I wear these most of the time 3mm Short Socks | Tilos
and I also have a pair of Lavacore and a pair of Lycra.

I used to get blisters with dive boots until I bought boots with the ridges up the heel. Now I don't need to wear socks. I find my boots a little soft on the rocks in Bonaire but not so much that I've wanted to replace them I've had them for 15 years and I'm pretty fond of them.
If I were to use socks, I'd use some Lycra socks. Make sure they fit well and don't have seams that bug you with fins on, I've even worn regular tube socks and they've worked well.
My drysuit has boots a lot like hard soled wetsuit boots and I wear smart wool socks with it. They're really comfortable but of course, they stay dry.

I think they were like $15 or $18 at the Buddy shop....which is kind pricey considering that they are really just a tube of Lycra. But.... the good news is that they come in all kinds of wild and crazy colors.


FYI.. we were just there in May for 10 days. Reef is healthy. Did all shore dives other than a two tank day with East Coast Divers out of Sorobon. $120 ea for two tanks...including Nitrox.. A MUST DO in my opinion. You will see more on those two dives than anything on the west side.

Yep. My boots rub blisters on me about halfway through a week of diving, so I just use the same type ankle socks I wear with my tennis shoes. Works great, and really cheap from Wally World.....
