Booms around Destin Jetties?

Booms have been up for a few weeks at Ft.Pickens and we've been diving with them, so I don't think anyone will say anything.

i was out at ft pickens today and i didnt see any booms at the jetties was out there yesterday and didnt see any

Just saw this on CNN. It's an article about East Pass and issues with the "booming plan".

click on the pics at the top of the page and "pic 2" is a video. it shows a very small amount of boom in the water near the entrance to the harbor. (at the point). Pics 3 & 4 show a small amount of boom in the water also.

I don't know if it's still in the water or not, or if they were just running tests/dry-wet runs.

This might explain why the Boom was installed and now might be gone... Looks like the Coast Guard wants it redone a different way...

I am praying selfishly for Destin:signofcross:
We are leaving out saturday night (stayingSunday and Monday) to dive/snorkel the jettys and shell island.
I will update this thread when I get there and before we leave Tuesday morning.

The booms are for any possible signs of oil that could hit the area. It's thanks in part to Destin's tourism council. She stated on CNN, the night before last they wouldn't wait on BP to put any boom out, fantastic on their part. To bad the Florida statutes say different ( this act must be done by BP due to the cost and man power, the council already told them to remove the boom and let BP do their job.) Looks like the state really wants to help, thanks Governor Christ. To ScubaDog 1969 the booms were at Ft. Pickens as of yesterday on shore to the west at the pass.

That sucks. BP will put the booms up because they are all about doing the right thing and getting things done. I am supposed to go to the Dry Tortugas next month on a liveaboard. I don't know if we will be able to make it know.
