For someone used to the warm water in the southeast, doing water that cold might be a shock. I had to do a 55F dive in a 5mil shorty one day. After being used to 70F springs. It's a very different feeling! I'll do the mine one day, but I have a lot of other things to do first.
 
As a new diver myself I would not recommend it until later. Too many uncomfortable situations for me. There is not alot to see until you do the later trails and there is no life except for Bonnie in the Mine. It is a bit expensive too.
