They make sure that YOU check your gas pressure.

OK thank you for clarifying that, surely had the wrong thoughts going my mind!

It is an awesome place. It is so lit up that you really do not need a light. To me it felt the closest I would get to diving on another planet. There is nothing natural there for the most part. Everything under the water is man-made. I am heading back there for the fourth time in March.

It is really worth doing. Remember to dress warm.. the water temp is 58 and the air temp is in the sixties so its hard to warm up between dives if you dont prep for it.

I have been on the walking tour and it was great, they have a pontoon that you can take a ride on and the whole place is great but the only thing that put me off diving was the rather large price tag of around $100.00 a dive! But if your on a trip through a shop it might be worth your time.
It is and will be on my bucket list till it gets better on price.

it's currently $65 a dive...

As for the dive lights... on the first trails there's no need for them at all, there is more then enough light. On later trails you can carry a small backup light but again for the most part they 1) aren't needed 2) really can be a distraction... half the views of the diving here are background light and shadows.

On the later trails, lights are needed but by then you'll have enough dives in the mine to know ;-)

I have been pondering going to Bonne Terre for a couple of years. It is a long drive but is workable for a 3 day weekend. It sounds very appealing in January when I am going dive crazy and stir crazy. There have been may threads on this issue on SB. Everyone seems to have an opinion on this subject. The trip is on my bucket list.

Rich, keep us posted. I may join you in March.

Dave.

Meh.

No lights..? Follow ze leader...? Let me run your gas management...? Rototillers? And $65 a dive, more than a load of 18/45.

I'll pass. Glad that some folks enjoy it, though.

All the best, James

I/and a few others from the Indy Dive Club, are diving there this weekend. It will be my first time there. I am excited to dive something different.

I will be down there Thanksgiving weekend....If I remember when I get back I'll respond.....

Kyle~ You guys should be going THIS weekend! :)

Cool! I'd love to hear how it goes and what you think about it. I think I'm going to go there sometime this winter.

Bonne Terre is not as bright as the pictures make it out to be. We took a class of OW students and I would not recommend that others do the same. Two of the group got wierded out and did not finish their dives, one came back this summer and finished.

The vistas are real cool partly because only the guide have lights and you get a back lighting effect from the fixed lights. With only guides with lights the divers are much less likely to wander off into pitch black. Went down there last December and this was still the policy.

They also have a pontoon boat tour.

I had a great time diving at Bonne Terre. We opted to do 3 dives on Saturday and drive the 6 hour trip home on Sunday without doing any dives on Sunday.
I am looking forward to taking another trip there to do more trails.
