Leaving in 1 week for my first visit to BON. Can anyone tell me what the current water temp is. Just to get an idea if all I need to bring is a skin, or must I haul a 3mm as well?
Thanks, DD

While the water temp in Bonaire is almost always around the 26-27oC mark, it never hurts to have a full 3mm steamer to protect you against the elements/coral/rocks/urchins....etc.

How many dives a day do you plan on doing? 86F water is fine for one dive a day, but repetetive dives over multiple days is a different story. The question to ask yourself is "Have you ever ended a dive thinking that you wish you had been colder?"

As for me, I dive dry in Bonaire so you don't want to hear my answer!

I'd bring both just in case. If you leave the 3mm at home and get cold because you're doing 4-5 dives per day, you'll kick yourself. If you never need it, you'll know not to bring it next time. ;)

I just returned from Bonaire and water temps were 83-84. For me I always wear a 3 mm wet suit for warmth and protection. Others wear dive skins, swimsuits, thongs with t-shirts, etc. It all depends on the person. The water is starting to cool off but you should expect over 80 degree water so plan accordingly. Night dives will certainly keep you cool so stay warm.

My computer shows consistently 84 degrees, Oct 12-19. I took my shortie and my Pinnacle 3/5 and wore my 3/5 the entire time. With Omar, I am really glad I took it, was pretty warm most of the time but protected... cold never even touched me!

My logs from last year, week of Nov 26th, was 82 F every day, and 79F on some night and pre-dawn dives.

Hope that helps!

It was 85 Suunto degrees two weeks ago. If you plan to do many dives or a few very long dives a day you'll probably be happy with a full 3mil. It might also save the skin on you shins with some of the tricky entries. A lot of dead coral has was up on to the rocky entry areas in most places from Omar. Have fun Don.

:D Thanks to all. Leaving tomorrow, so I guess I am ready. As long as the water's over 80 I usually can handle just a skin for up to 3 dives a day.
Appreciate everyones input. Will post when I return, DD
