This is a side note but...if you are in the mood for a wonderful milkshake drive the southern road to Rincon. Stop by Le Ma Se (a roadside cafe of sorts) and say hello to Norman. He'll make you a milkshake and entertain you with stories while you sit on the patio.
Kirk Gosden of Lions Den and Corinna Wegerer or Cactus Blue are personal friends of mine. I just don't know how you could beat the food or the service at either. It's awful nice to be welcomed back year after year and to enjoy the same quality service.
Jan at Rose Inn was also a great face to greet year after year. Unfortunately none of us can live forever. We did, however, enjoy Norman this year.
I guses all I have to say is that no matter where you eat - you're on Bonaire - savor the moment!!
My wife and I heavily recommend Maiky's(pronounced Mikey's) Best Local Cuisine. Ask a local for directions and expect to turn around a few times. It's out there. Go for lunch. Mostly stews and what not but very good food and inexpensive. Don't be surprised if they are confused by your presence, I don't think many white people go there, but they were very friendly and willing to translate the menu. Very worth it though.
Papaya Moon was very good. Owned by a family from Texas that wanted to run a restraunt on an island somewhere. Very friendly people. Wish I could take the risk they did and open a business somewhere in paradise.
The traffic light pizza place. May already be mentioned. It's on the main road from town to Buddy and Captain Don's on the right side.
Try the pizza at Captain Don's. Made with Gouda instead of mozzarella. My wife and I were not allowed to try it. Went with people who went the year before and they insisted it was no good. However every time we talked about trying it, they would make a big deal that it was no good and if we wanted pizza we HAD to go to the traffic light place. Made me very curious for the pizza and only made me want to try it more. Have you ever really had bad pizza?
The "Traffic Light Pizza" is Pasa Bon Pizza and their "motto" is "Stop for Pizza". They do indeed have a working traffic light on the front of the building, a lovely courtyard for seating and delicious pizza, lasagna and salads. During busy times it is always good to call for reservations. They also do take-away. Try the fish pizza!!!
I just returned from a week in Bonaire, and ate at several of the restaurants listed. I was pleasantly surprised that the quality of the meals was generally very good. And while prices were somewhat high, they were not over-the-top, particularly for a tourist destination.
My favorite restaurant was "It Rains Fishes" (ate there twice).
A very close second was "Warung Louise." The Indonesian "Rice Table" was excellent (though it has an Indonesian name that I do not recall; it translates as rice table).
Most of the food on Bonaire is pretty good. You have heard about almost all the places on the island by now. Cactus Blue is always great, La Guernica has wonderful spanish tapas (and evil desserts), It Rains Fishes doesn't seem to be as good as it was before they remodeled but it's still good, there is a new Peruvian restaurant right on the south end of the main street that was excellent and then there's Warung Louise (across from the Peruvian place) that has a good ristafel. Enjoy!
For Italian, you have to go to Cappriccio's. Its practically next door to WattaBurger. Great food....very friendly owners....who are from Italy. Great dining experience. Can be very expensive though. We always plan on one night here....It's a real treat!
