Hey everyone-

I'm planning my annual week-long dive trip; based on local shop availability on Columbus day weekend (the time I want to be away) I'm thinking either Cabo San Lucas or Bonaire. I've never been to either.

A bit about me:

- about 15 dives now and only have my AOW; I hope to have at least 30 and my AOW by the time I take the trip.

- most of my diving has/will be in local quarries, with maybe one trip to the Atlantic coast

- I'm looking to mostly put minimal effort into diving and most into enjoying the scenery (and building up my dive experience). Ideally the place would have plentiful boat and shore dives, have lots of easy diving (shallow would be good), fun, and warm dives.
(hmmm with that last comment maybe I've already decided the answer to the question)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Bonaire. Period. End of story.

Never been to Cabo, but, in general, the western Pacific rim isn't impressive for diving except the Galapagos.

My wife and I were in almost the same situation as you about a year ago. We were AOW with about 17 dives before our trip to Bonaire. It was the perfect place for us to gain some experience. I've never been to Cabo but I think Bonaire is the place to go.

Bonaire. I dove cabo extensively and it was OK, but heard (and saw video) from my ship pals which showed me that bonaire was superior in all respects except maybe price of food. Good luck.

Bonaire if you want to dive dive dive - shore dive and boat dive any time day or night. Everyone there is there to dive.

Cabo if you want to dive once or twice, boat dive only, and then party all night every night. Not a dive comunity, its a party town.

I've been to both. Bonaire, hands down.

I've been to both and bonaire wins hands down. Truth be known I would rather go spend a week diving in a Texas lake than go back to Cabo for the diving.

Another vote for Bonaire. Just dove in Cabo over the holidays. It is fine to dive there if you happen to be in the area, but I wouldn't go there to dive.
