my experience of changing planes in Curacao and an over 6 hour ordeal there, with luggage going on some different flight, makes me want to never do that again....

We fly DFW to Miami to curaçao. Spend the night and fly to bonaire the next morning.

We prefer the Miami - Curacao - Bonaire route but we have always used DIVI DIVI for inter-island travel.

Some of the others carriers have real issues.

INSEL was "interesting" to say the least on their management style..... I won't fly that carrier again....

KLM was excellent, aside from an unscheduled side trip to Haiti to deport someone when we left Miami... The NATO gun towers were so nice to see in Port-Au-Prince...

I will personally always avoid any flight to or through MIA......if a S.FL stop is a must I'll try for FLL. Way too much theft in MIA.

Gotta agree with this, but domestic airlines can be interesting too. What really made us nervous was that if you miss your connection in Miami because Insel decides they want to take a detour through Curacao or something - Delta, American, Continental, etc. won't be real sympathetic.

So far I have a couple conclusions.

I wont fly into Miami, I don't really care for Miami too much, been there, did not have a good time ( long story) but I have decided I can do what I need for the rest of my life without going to Miami.
New Jersey? meh, No offence to anyone in Jersey but if I have to spend a night somewhere, it would not be in New Jersey. I realize that Houston is probably not much better than Newark, but I have never been to Texas, and they have the Gulf there, always a chance for a relax beach/ocean day, before a long plane flight with my knees up.

I do not really care for the long layovers in the islands either, I can't imagine spending 6 hours at the airport. A flight out of Atlanta would be ok, I have been to that airport and I am familiar with the city, having stayed there for a few days last fall.

As for the missed connections, I would never time things that close, i am not the type of guy you will find running through an airport

But thanks for your replies, I am enjoying the info and the stories
