I take an older presciption pair back and forth between the dive site and the resort.

After posting, I thought about suggesting this also. After I got Lasik a couple of years ago I had about a half-dozen old glasses that I donated. Surely he's got an old pair laying around to take diving?

From what I've heard the thieves of Bonaire will steal even a prosthetic limb.

Seriously!?!? With all due respect, I think you may be overreacting! Honestly, it's probably not a risk I would take but the theft problem is much more exaggerated than it actually is. Remember, out of sight, out of mind... hide your stuff. Don't make it look like you've got something valuable to secure... leave your windows down... heck, leave a door open so it looks like you just stepped away. Don't isolate yourself... dive in popular areas with other divers coming and going.

Well frames can be major expensive (read: prada)!

So stuffing them in a BC pocket and taking them diving is any safer? Some entries can be tricky (read: Karpata)!

have any of you taking a magnifying glass diving w/you on bonaire? to look at teeny stuff?

Yes, I have a small inexpensive one that fits in my BC pocket. Carib Inn sells them if you don't find one before you leave. There is also a great magnifier (though it costs quite a bit) that is available from ReefNet.

thanks! i found one online from scientificsonline.com for $11 that was recommended by someone on another board i think it was. so......it's on the way. i've never tried that before, but thought it might be interesting.........you never know what tiny critters you'll come upon. only fifteen days now. getting so excited!! any more tips about dive sites, restaurants, things you wish you had brought with you, etc. are very welcome!!!

Over the years our list of items has changed. Now our suitcases include minimal clothing, bug spray, sunscreen, small packs of spices for cooking, individual packets of Crystal Light and two very beat up Nalgene bottles.

Restaurant tip -- you will need to ask for your check as it will not be presented to you unless you do. Our favorite restaurants include Pasa Bon Pizza, Bobbe Jan's, Wil's, Patagonia, Bistro de Paris, Cappricio's, El Fagoen and Plazita Limona. We also like to do take away chicken from Buenas Aires and from the Carneceria Latina.

Be sure to use the magnifier in the ironshore holes with urchins in them -- look under the edge of the urchins for nine line gobies. Magnifiers are also great for looking at squat anemone shrimp.
