i have another question.......husband wears prescription glasses (not sunglasses, regular ones....) doe he need to get a water tight box for them and clip to BC while diving............not safe to leave them in truck?

I can tell you that I won't be taking my prescription sunglasses with me. Hubby can drive to the sites (I'll drive everywhere else). I'm not risking losing hundreds of dollars worth. You should drive and let him leave the glasses back at the condo/room, imo.

Yea, that reminds me I need to pick up a couple of cheap sunglasses this week... I also got a small aquapac ( AQUAPAC | 100% Waterproof | Official Site ) that's just big enough for keys, cash, cards, but they make them bigger. I also read that salt water isn't too too bad on glasses as long as you rinse them real well afterwards. So maybe just a ziplock and toss them in a bc pocket? I sure don't plan on leaving the expensive prescriptions anywhere!

I wouldn't worry about keeping anything dry... just together. We had a little dry box that wasn't depth rated just for keeping a driver's license, cash and the truck keys in clipped a BC while we dived. It didn't matter that it all got wet.

Yeah... isn't our sweat salty? I don't think it'll hurt them.

I don't think anyone would want them. Thieves want something of value to them, not just you. Not sure there is a big market for used prescription glasses... that'd be like stealing someone's prosthetic limb.

From what I've heard the thieves of Bonaire will steal even a prosthetic limb. :D

...theves are usually in a hurry...they'll steal stuff now and figure out later what to do with it.....so if a thief later just decides to dump the sunglasses in the 'round file' instead of keeping them...you're still scr*wed !

Well frames can be major expensive (read: prada)! Not to mention the problem it would cause for those folks that are blind without their glasses... In other words its probably wise to either leave them in the room or carry them with you. My nearsightedness is trivial so I'll leave them in the room.

I usually take my glasses. I have left them in the open, unlocked truck, just tucked out of sight. But safer to take them under, so you know you'll have them later.

I don't bother with a watertight case, just an old eyeglass case will do. Salt water won't harm my glasses.

thanks everyone........his are pretty expensive, so i'm gonna recommend he take them under with us.........i'm even willing to carry them in my BC pocket for him, cause i have a jacket style BC and plenty of pocket room. and he's rather blind w/out them. but he has a Rx mask, so if desperate he could wear his mask to drive! tee hee hee

I take an older presciption pair back and forth between the dive site and the resort. While diving I keep them in a hard but not waterproof case. Saltwater does not harm frames and a quick rinse cleans them off. I put the "good" pair back on when I am back to the resort. On the off chance I break or lose them I have my good set at the resort. If you need your glasses to function, you really should travel with a second pair anyway, there are no 1 hr glass shops on Bonaire, spending the week walking around in your mask is going to look a little strange.....and heaven knows what the TSA would think. :)

25 days and 3 hours until I head that way. :D
