Was part of the group he organized and was very happy with Plaza the boat dives and the dive out front was good. Have been to Bonaire many times and this was my first time at full service type resort. If that is what you desire and it sounds like it is I would check it out. They do have meal plans and atleast two restaurants.
Personally I eat locally when I am there usually but food at the Plaza was fine.

The Plaza now has an all inclusive package. It includes 11 boat dives as well as meals and drinks. Sounds like it's only available with the Grand Suites (which are very nice, stayed there last Sept) Additional boat dives are available.

When I was there last Sept they ran 2 tank boat dives leaving at 8:30 and a 1 tank trip in the afternoon, I think it was at 2. Shore dives from their beach would be a possibility for you as well. Tanks are kept by the pool and it would be an easy carry for you to get it to the water for your wife. The entry isn't bad.

My next door neighbors go to Bonaire almost every Christmas (must be nice).

The stay at the Plaza and only do boat dives.

So - boat diving only isn't an issue - just be sure that the place you stay can accomodate the number of dives you want to do.

Bruce Bowkar's Carrib Inn runs a daily 2 tank boat and also an afternoon 1 tank. Small group, very professional, dive your own profile, etc. Not a cattle boat. They leave at 8 am. Very good experience, also good gear shop and repair.

If i was doing boat dives the Carib Inn is where I'd go. Only dive boat where as you said you dive your own profile. its as close to shore diving as you get. Downside for some is no Nitrox. Also when I was there (several years ago 2009) they only did one tank dives in morning and afternoon. None of this is an issue for me personally.

+1 for Carib Inn.

Do the boat dives with your bride. Have fun. Then, when you come in and she's ready to read a book or sip a toddy, you can grab a tank and do a solo off the dock. Or go that night. Or jump in the truck and run up to Oil Slick. I like to get up at oh-dark-30 and see the changing of the guard (can't get any of my women up to go with me then).

This is the great thing about Bonaire - do it your way, even if your way is both ways.

I too like the pre dawn dives on Bonaire. Almost always have the reef completely to myself at that time of the "day", and it is quite a show to witness the nearly instant change of marine life that happens just after first light.

I for one do not want to wake anyone else to go then. THAT is my time alone on the reef.

South - plenty of boat diving to do on Bonaire! We split our diving beach-boat almost equally. We are older and some days just don't feel like schleppin gear into truck, getting beat up, etc. All good valid point here. Few personal observations - Bruce Bowkers Caribe Inn - top notch, lovely gardens, no restaurant/meal plan, difficult to get into due to popularity. Not a resort so much as private residence added onto over time. No knocks - Bruce IS the go to guy for repairs or gear. Plaza - better suited for boat diving w/ multiple boats. Large resort - your room can be a bit of a hike from your car, the beach, restaurant and boat dock. I'm sure they can create a custom package including food and boat dives. Resort is further south so Klein Bonaire is a bit of a boat ride. Again, no knocks. Capt Don's - fair sized resort, couple boats, spit across the way to Klein sites. Package boat, lodging and meals. Excellant onsite restaurant and bar with wide variety on the menu. Buddy Dive - probably has most boats (though I've never really counted ## of boats at every resort), right next to Capt Don's, about the same size, so-so onsite food, package meals and boats, does 2 tank morning/afternoon trips. I too like 2 or 3 tank trips - I'm out, let's dive more! Again Klein is short trip across the way. Secret gate between resorts so you can walk over to eat and drink at Capt Don's (though if they lock the gate you have to walk out to the street to access the other resort). No so large that you are ever more then a minute or 2 from boat dock. Both Capt Don and Buddy Dive are about 10 min drive into Kralendijk proper, Carib Inn is walkable and Plaza is another mile or so south of Carib Inn. Buddy and Don's are also closer to the Northern sites some of which are easier to do by boat - 1000 Steps, Rappel (not really practical by land), Jeff Davis... There are other resorts, but I have little or no experience with them. Good luck!

I have stayed at Buddies multiple times, Den Lamen, and the Plaza, a time or 2, as far as resorts go. All have their ups and downs, shortages and strong suits. I certainly could use any one of them again, and be happy, although I never tried boat dives at Den Lamen. Boat dives are NOT my favorite method of diving Bonaire (the Wild side does not count. Having now done the east side both as boat and as shore dive, I would opt for boat dives there, every time!). While I have probably 20 to 30 boat dives logged on the island, I have done literally hundreds of shore dives on Bonaire.

We have rented off resort a few times, and that was good too. I opt to use Buddy Dive's shore package for my off resort trips (24/7 access to air and nitrox speaks to me), but there are plenty of other options. I am pretty sure you can also purchase a boat dive package from a resort such as Buddy's and the Plaza, if you ask nicely. :D (Your $ speaks for you, no matter where you lay your head at night.)
Last year my friends and I booked Buddy's 3 tank Washington Park trip, even tho we were all staying at various other resorts at the time.

I have enjoyed boat dives with Buddy and Divi even though Buddy typically goes to sites that are not easy shore dives. I have found that I did not feel short changed by the dive profiles suggested by Buddy (100' max and 500 psi). Their dives were typically to Klein which is a really long swim for shore divers!:eyebrow:
