So last year I promised myself that this year I would do a little shark diving. I hear that a few boats in and around Los Angeles offer blue shark/mako excursions but I'm not sure who to go with. From what I've read, the right chumming mixture can mean the difference between lots of sharks and no sharks at all and I really don't want to waste a day. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, I hear that the blues are relatively safe an playful and that out-of-cage experiences are the way to go. Is this true? Are there any outfits offering this?

Any info would be appreciated!

There used to be place out of Ventura who ran some shark dives. Not sure they still do it anymore. If you run across a place let me know I'll go too.

Well, it looks like Dive Aquatica still runs trips out of San Pedro. Their Cptn., Manny Koch, wrote me to let me know that they haven't set up any open boat trips for this year yet but that they will later in the season. However, he is willing to take 4 people out on a 23' boat, the Cyana, for a $1000 flat rate. $250/person sounds reasonable to me and I've got a dive buddy who feels the same. If you'd like, Iggy, you can be our third. Shoot, if you know a fourth then all that's left are the scheduling issues.

Likewise, anyone else who might be reading this, please feel free to speak up or join up. Below are two sites with a little more info:

not sure about going out on a 23 footer .....but if the dates work I'll consider it.

PM me once you have tentative dates

I'd be interested also. Need more details and of course scheduling issues.

I am interested too. And Like Plucky stated, I would also like more details and schedule info.

A few years ago, they were doing some sort of seminar thing where they would take you shark diving and tagging fish or something of that sort, but I recall that the boat was much larger.

Last year Scuba Luv was doing some shark diving of some sort. I'm not sure of the details though, give them a call!

I'm in if someone can organize. If not anyone up for squid diving in baja?

I'm not positive on this, but I think SCUBA Luv here on Catalina is running a shark dive pretty soon. Do a Google search and check their website for dates.

Hmm.. I just checked their website and didn't see a schedule. Contact them at (310) 510-2350 or scubaluvcatalina@att.net
