What is worse about roto tilling at the bhb, is animals and animal habitats are destroyed.

In any event, without the help we had showing the county agencies the bad attitudes of collectors and wannabe spearfishermen on their activities in the Park area, they may never have decided that more protections were needed. You guys both made a big impression. thanks guys :)

You are very welcome. So you now agree, the State of Florida owns the submerged lands?

    I guess that's progress....

I don't really care about whether the state or the county owns the land....The Park will control it. There will be no more shooting Bambi at this Petting Zoo ! :)

Saw a manatee on the east side today! I guess I got in too early because the current was really strong. 80 deg / 78 min and a lot of particulates in the water. No pics today :(

I am planning a day trip to BHB from Tampa in about two weeks with a friend. We have never been to the area and were wondering if anyone knows of nearby shore diving spots we could also checkout? We are willing to make the 4 hour drive just for BHB but would like to get more out of the trip than an hour or so dive. Any information is appreciated.

This is the best shore dive in the state, other than the BHB. The big complication is that you cant park anywhere near it...However, if you stay at the Hilton on Singer Island ( around $110 per night with the special SF Dive Rate they created for divers) the Hilton has a shuttle that can drop you off at the end of the perimeter road that paralells the beach, at the far south end. You then have a 200 yard walk to the pumphouse --youi will see the pumphouse in the video.

Vis in the summer at high tide is usually over 50 feet, sometimes to 100 feet. This was a low vis day due to some bad weather. One of Florida's best shore dives...the Jetty at the Palm Beach inlet..The Pumphouse... - YouTube

Thanks for the info. I wasn't planning on staying over night but perhaps I could still make use of the hilton shuttle for a nice tip.
