I used to donate whole blood every 3 months and platelets every month. I then started traveling internationally quite a bit and wasn't able to donate for a few years.

After I started cruising for a year or so, I investigated donating again (actually, it was a drive at my company's headquarters). They don't count stopping in Mexico with a cruise ship as visiting the area, because you don't spend a night there. So even though a number of my ports of call had been on their no-no list, I was able to donate.

Peace,
Cathie

Now who do you ask when you don't know?

The folks at the FDA who regulate blood & blood products are the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research.

Contact them at 800-835-4709/301-827-1800/octma@cber.fda.gov

Best regards.

Thanks Doc. I was waiting to have more of an update to offer, but this is all I can say.
I called the FDA on Saturday and left a message. I have not heard back from them.
Janet says her Gulf Coast Blood center is also only one of two, in the U.S. that tests for West Nile. So she is more into it then we can imagaine.
She will not go to Playa, and says it will not be taken off the list by anything I can do.
So, I guess I'm giving up. Maybe we can get her to take a family vacation with us to New Orleans. :)
Thank you everyone for your help. I'm fighting a losing battle, it seems.
