I'm a Fish!
Did anyone know that Playa is on the list of places, you cannot go to if you want to donate blood?
I have heard there hasn't been any reason for this, for sometime.

How can we have 'them' removed from the list.
Any ideas?

Roatan, Honduras visit will keep you from donating for one year.

To the best of knowledge, a vacation in the metropolitan area of Playa del Carmen will not bar one from donation.

If one ventures out to the rural or jungle areas, however, like Coba, there likely will be an extended waiting period.

The matter can be definitively clarified by inquiring here---->

I want to believe that so much. My sister in law who works as a volunteer at a blood center, and has donated 76 gallons of blood will not go on a trip with us in January, because she said it is on the list.
How can I prove her wrong?
We really want her to join us.

Thanks Doc. You're the best! I filled out the form, and it's on the way. I'll let you know when I get a response.
My fingers are crossed!

I tried to give blood two weeks ago at the Red Cross and I was denied. They consider Cancun a non-malaria zone and Playa del Carmen a non-malaria zone. There was some discussion as to whether traveling by vehicle between Cancun and Plaza del Carmen disqualified me - which it would have. In any event, I was disqualified because I had gone to Tulum, which is in the malarial zone. I'm out of commission for blood donation for an entire year. Hope this helps.

76 gallons

that's one old girl.
76 gallons - 608 pints
608 donations x 6 weeks minimum spacing (generally its 8 weeks) = 3648 weeks or a bit over 70 years. Since donation can't start until you reach 18 that puts her minum age at something close to 90.

I think you meant pints. I'm a bit over the 10 gallons point in my donation history, but I've been at it about 30 years.

76 pints is an exceptional record, and within striking distance of the 10 gallon milestone

Hmm She's not quite 90. I thought she said gallons. Now I will check. She is REALLY into it.

This is what she wrote to me earlier.

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center still has the area as a malaria risk area.
