I've been hearing reports, but this was my first BSB sighting at La Jolla Cove in the last 20 years. I had my eyes on the bottom and almost bumped into him. At least 4' long, he let me parallel him for about 2 minutes before he put the jets on and vanished. Also saw a big Sheep Crab and a good size Horn Shark. And 3 big Abalone. (Boy, do I miss Abalone!) Visibility was only about 10 feet, but the BSB sighting made this a dive to remember.

I was going to say, nice find! But as you almost bumped into it I guess I can't! :)

I haven't seen a BSB in a couple of years. Sigh...

Sightings in the Casino Point dive park here have been occurring for the last month or so, although very infrequently since it is early in the season. Haven't checked Italian Gardens yet.

If you dive straight out from the stairs(and to the right) and drop down near buoy A at the Cove you should find several black sea bass. They must have 10-20 big and small just cruising around. They are seen sometimes by divers at La Jolla Shores. They also have Soupfin sharks cruising around so don't be surprised if you see some of them! It's pretty fun being able to approach these gentle giants so closely!

divebuddysean,

Thanks for the tip. I'll check that out next dive.

Just saw my first one of the "season" in the Casino Point dive park today. It was just a "baby" (only five feet long), and a little skittish.
