What's wrong with yellow?
Well, if your last name is Black, you can tell people that you have a mask named after yourself! Doh! Actually, the black silicone skirts prevent ambient light from entering thus reducing distraction and personally, I think the black skirts are more pliable giving a better seal.

At one time, all masks were black, blue or yellow. However, most divers wore all black including the mask. In the days of natural rubber or neoprene, the carbon black offered some protection from UV deterioration. Whatever the material, the black mask creates a shadow inside the mask, reduces strain on the eyes while adding contrast to the image streaming through the lens. This, in turn, allows spearfishermen to focus on the target.

Clear skirts on masks are popular because they minimize the claustrophobic feeling some people get when they wear a mask. Nevertheless, clear skirts and even colored frames actually interfere with vision. Extraneous light entering through the clear skirt makes it more difficult for the eye to focus and causes reflections that obscure vision.
