My wife and I are in the group that prefers the hassle of the bag drag to the possible problems with catching a connecting flight in Charlotte or Atlanta.

However, we've had bad luck with finding a reliable and reasonable private van/car to get us from CUN to the ferry. Any recommendations?

I have used USA Transfers or Canada Transfers several times in the past. Just booked with Canada transfers for November. Always extremely good service.

Agree with Canada Transfers. Used several times. Always waiting for us and like purchasing a few beers for the the ride to Playa.

I have used Transfers USAmerica several times with good service and plan to use them on the 3rd to move 6 family members down from the airport. Like most folks I know in Mexico they primarily use Whatsapp for voice and messaging, the contact # I have is 52 1 998 346 0285

Flying direct to Cozumel from Austin has only been possible once or twice since the late 1980's when I started going t here regularly. Every time I have checked flights from AUS to CUN, the flight times haven't been good. Flying through HOU to CZM I get there before noon, and my departure time at the end of my stay is around 2PM. Every time I have checked, flying into CUN direct from AUS would have gotten me to the island around 6PM and I would have had to leave at 9AM or so to make the return flight. That's pretty much a whole day lost.

Yeah, that's not so good for me. It would put me at my hotel at 7 or later, which pretty much shoots that day. Coming home, I'd have to be at the CUN airport by 3:30 or 4, which means I'd have to catch the 1:00 ferry. I'd much rather get up early, go through Houston, and get to Cozumel before noon. On Departure Day, I'd rather have a short cab ride to the CZM airport and be on my way than deal with the ferry and land transport to get to Cancun.

It would have to be a whole lot cheaper to get me to go through Cancun.

About 600 less in ticket fees and 100 less in baggage fees. The afternoon flight means we can dive the day before we fly without worries. Each to their own. When we have flown into Cozumel it has it's own issues. Not bad really just it's own set of problems. When we got off the ferry we can walk 3 blocks to where we stay. easy peasy but you have the bag drag.
